If we're looking for an alternative to Kane I can see why Poch likes Berahino. He has pace, awareness and is a good finisher. However, there are many things Kane does which Berahino won't. We use Kane a lot to hold the ball up and relieve pressure for starters. I can't see Berahino doing that and I also can't see him running himself into the ground to press the opposition back line. I would have thought we would be looking for a player who brings more Kane-like qualities to the table, especially if we were to lose Kane for any length of time.

Berahino can't play as a lone forward. He's a decent WF, but he's useless with his back to goal and doing most of the things a CF does.

Dembele is much more Kane-like. Bigger, stronger , runs off the ball and is much better at linking-up play.

Except he doesn't score. Chadli is probably the nearest we have to a back up striker at the moment but I wouldn't want to rely on him leading the line for long.

I think Berahino could be a good option for us but I think his price was massively over to top in the summer. I think I'd rather wait for him to come on a free at the end of his contract than splash massive money on him.

Assume he means the Fulham Striker we've been linked with...

Fulham Dembele's one inch taller than Berahino...

I am not convinced he is an out an out striker. I think Poch is blowing a bit of smoke to conceal who he really wants

And Aguero is probably shorter than both, but he can play with his back to goal.

Height is not always the determining factor in strikers' skill sets.
Can Augero play back to goal? Really. City have always been struggling work out how to play so to get the best of out him, which is why they wanted to play two strikers for so long. He's a great player but holding the ball up is not a particular strong point, although I take your point that he does use his body better than a lot of smaller guys.

I think he's very good back to goal as is Tevez.

Sure it's not as though City are humping balls upto him, but he can take a ball in with a man on his back no problem his body strength and use of his body to protect the ball are two of his major assets.

Of course he can play with his back to goal, he's one of the best and most complete strikers in the world, why does this even need to be debated?

Players like Aguero, Modric, Messi even though they are short, they are deceptively strong as they use their leg muscles to hold off defenders and shield the ball, it has nothing to do with height.

Off course he can receive the ball facing his own goal, But in games, particularly in Europe, when City can't get the ball and end up deep, it can be difficult for them without an out ball. I've seen him struggle with the two defenders winning the ball back.

Any player is going to struggle against two central defenders, particularly against defenders in the Champions League, that doesn't mean he doesn't have the skill to do it, you make it sound like playing with your back to goal against two defenders and trying to play your team mates in is a piece of piss :D

Playing with your back to goal isn't just about merely holding the ball up, it's also about link up play and possessing the ability to make space for yourself and drag defenders out of position which he does successfully on a regular basis which is why he is renowned as one of the best strikers in the world.

I agree with this and would like to think that they are scouting for just that type of player also as I don't think Josh Onomah is anywhere near ready to cover for HK just yet

If this story is true and Poch is desperate to bring Berahino in then our manager has currently displayed more than enough results wise to be backed by us and DL 100% and our chairman should be moving heaven & earth to bring him in this January

I don't mind Berahino if we can get him for around £15m would be happy with that still, he has the ability. Also Onomah isn't a striker he is a AM/CM

As for Berahino, I really can't see us going for another WF like him, now that Son has settled so quickly at RWF and Lamela has come on so much at LWF.

We need a CF, and that's not Berahino
Berahino is a CF. The fact he can play other positions is a plus and so obviously what Poch wants

I think a striker with different attributes is what Poch wants. And a player who can play with Kane up top. You could put Kane just behind Berahino in certain games

If Pochottino wants Berahino, and he certainly did in the Summer, then I don't doubt wellspurs is spot on with his information hopefully it leads somewhere this time.
To be honest they haven't been relying on him this season so maybe they will allow him to leave to save his wages and make some money plus, of course, he refused to sign a new contract.
