I'd also ask how many top Prem teams have like for like back up strikers?

Good point. At Chelsea for example, Remy is back up to Costa and there nothing alike.

At Arsenal there's no one similar backing up Giroud either.

Aguero is very different to Bony aswell, as are Sturidge and Benteke.

I don't understand this question as to why would we want him when he is so different to Kane, perhaps that is the bloody point! Maybe he can give us a plan B without Kane or even a plan C alongside Kane, lets be honest, at the moment nobody else does do they.

We have son and njie who are able to do the Berahino type role, if Kane gets injured we will have no target man type to hold the ball up and will, quite frankly, have no shot at top 4

Lets see. I doubt very much we'll move for another WF like Berahino.

I think the smart money is on a proper CF like Dembele
I'm surprised you dismiss Berahino as being a WF not a CFyet call Dembele a proper CF when he has never played as a lone striker for Fulham.

I think people are underestimating Saido Berahino, pigeon holing him just as a wing forward doesn't do him justice.
Is he good enough for us, yes he is can he play with Kane, yes he can, can he play in the middle as a CF yes he can, will he score goals, yes he will.
Do we need someone like that, you betcha!

And those teams rarely look as good with those non similar players, not so well suited to the system play, do they. Liverpool looked fucking awful with Benteke on Sunday. Mourinho would rather play no striker at all than Remy.

We already have N'Jie who the last few times he's been brought on has played off the shoulder as a CF in a very similar role to Berahino when he plays up front (he was wrongly given offside on Saturday when clean through), and he potentially offers more as a wide forward. And what about Son ? If we are going to have a "different" type we've already spent 20m on him (and 10m on N'Jie). And we have players like Harrison coming through, who IMO has the potential to be at least as good as Berahino.

I really hope we don't waste money on a player who doesn't fit the system as a CF, isn't better as a wide forward than anyone we already have there.

Son wouldn't be as effective playing through the middle as Berahino would he? Not IMO he wouldn't.

I've seen nothing of Harrison so can't comment. The bottom line for me is if Pochettino sees something in him and feels he suitable for whatever reason and that's good enough for me given the progress he's made with some of the other players so far. Now he might end up wrong about Berahino but he clearly feels he's a player he can work with and develop.

Surely we should be prepared to trust his judgement on this.

They don't look as good because the players themselves are of a lower quality. You can't keep two truly top class similar players happy playing one up front, which is why no one has two.

Didn't he also want Dani Osvaldo at Southamton?

And Fazio?

I completely agree that we can't keep two top quality strikers happy, (not that I think Berahino is top quality) but is he going to be happy sitting on our bench?

Isn't that the point of N'jie ? He is.

And Son, Chadli & Alli could all be pushed up to play in the middle. Again, isn't that the point of buying players like them (certainly Chadli & Son) that they offer this versatility and can be kept happy.

I guess Chelsea and United may want him as there is not much targets in the winter window (onion, not ITK)
