You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

If Dembele is here for a season this sort of signing makes alot of sense. There is a reason other top teams get these players and we are left out after when they are too expensive, they buy them and exceptions aside we mainly dont.

I have no idea on this guy, but at 20 already playing in a foriegn league with a team that seems to get these good players in early he could be a good fit.

Norwegian tv were reporting it yesterday afternoon apparently

They said his agent was in England with Arsenal, Tottenham and Fulham rumoured to be interested. So that probably means Fulham are interested and his agent are using us and goons as leverage for a better wage packet.

No not really but he had a hard time getting game time in Genk. He was a bit of a wonder kid in the norwegian league, not at the level of
Ødegaard. I do not believe he is ready for pl.

One thing is that he is very tall.
Kind of goes against what other(s) have said in this thread, he was injured last year, no? (hamstring?)

Yep he is tall, so the physical thing that Poch appreciates.

Thing is, I guess this may not float your boat if you were expecting a player with a different price tag I suppose. It seems to be the growing trend in most threads.

Yeah I bet you said the same on Dier or Dele

Them I had actually not seen playing so no.

Theres nothing wrong with Berge but to sign him now with our problems in midfield would be strange. He is not the talent that Dele was and would need a couple of years in pl first. Maybe buy and loan him out.

Would love to see him get a chance here.

It's becoming more and more difficult for us to buy young, promising players.

The Tier 1 wonderkids (Mbappe, Dembele, Vinicius etc) are way out of our price range. The Tier 2/3 wonderkids which Berge might be a part of, are just about affordable but not quite good enough to walk into our team. So they end up signing for clubs like Sevilla or Dortmund or Monaco - great teams on the cusp of the top echelons of European football, who also somehow always have space for these kids.

I don't have the answers but I'd love for us to find a way of getting more great kids playing decent minutes for us like those other teams.

Made a list of UEFA 50 for the future: https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/newsid=2528631.html

Sander Berge (NOR, 20 – Genk)
The 1.90m-tall midfielder comes from a family of basketball players but is showing huge promise with the ball at his feet in Belgium.

I've heard in the Norwegian media that he actually had to choose between sports (I think he was hugely talented at Tennis as well). Might not be so interesting, but it tells you he has some athleticism and he's not just a big lump like Fellaini. I'm not saying he's the next Modric, but he is probably the most exciting prospect out of Norway (together with Ødegaard) in decades. The difference between him and Ødegaard is probably that he took the sensible route out of the Norwegian league (which is poor) and went to Genk rather than Real Madrid (or any other top club).

Also, to make a point, Leon Bailey (who most on here is raving about) played for Genk a year ago. Most of us probably wouldn't be over the moon signing him then, but after a year in the Bundesliga his reputation is somewhat different. It is possible to think that the same would be the case for Berge. If he went to Sevilla (who's been tracking him for ages) then suddenly a year from now everybody would be hoping we would sign him for a much bigger fee. Again, not saying he will be the best thing since sliced bread, but I think people forget that these "under the radar" signings are often the same players we want in a year or two.

Yes hamstring was out for almost 6 months. Thats a worry for me.

Its not that I want an expensive new player I want someone that can start games. Im all for Berge as an investment for the future but not to help our current midfield issues.
He has a strong physical precence and pl will probably suit him well but I think its too early. He joined Genk only last year.

Could be a smart signing but I want a starting player as well then.

Ah, my mention of the price tag thing wasn't really aimed at you personally, so I apologise for that, it was more a general comment. Sorry Ekmek.

I will say that the one thing that has kept cropping up when people in here have posted about him is his maturity and his drive as a footballer, something I think Poch looks for and values in young players (I have no idea if other coaches/managers do, I'm sure it is)
I'm not sure if he could offer something right now, I'm sure if he is purchased there is a plan like anyone else we might purchase.

He seems like a prospect, guess we'll all see if it just turns out to be agents doing agents things.

Genk usually have a good eye for talents. For example Leon Bailey and having Cortouis and KdB coming through their academy. This could be a good buy (maybe not for immediate impact).

With Dembele going into his final year I can see some more business being done in January so that we at least get something for Moose.

Edit: Scratch that - Dembele's off!
