Anyone been keeping an eye on him in the Belgian league and Europa? Genk seem to be having a very good season

I've seen his European games as Genk have been grouped with Sarpsborg so all their games have been on telly here. He's never scored for Genk or any other club in a league fixture but has two goals this group stage, one good hit from 20 yards and one tonight with his cock from five yards. As I've said in this thread before I worry about his injury record but on talent alone he's certainly a player we should be looking at as a Dembele replacement.

The worry, as usual, is that players look better, faster, quicker thinking etc. etc. in lower quality Leagues. Janssen ripped up the Dutch League and N'Jie did well in France too. I'd be surprised if Berge was high on our list tbh.

Problem is, there’s a tier of players who seem a level above their peers in lesser leagues, then move to the Everton and Southampton’s of the world, take the league step up in their stride and continue to play a level above, which gets them their big moves. Whilst we still can’t, or won’t, buy from the top table, we need to get smarter at tapping into this market.
There will always be a variable success rate, for every Janssen who looks great then fails, there will also be an Alli who takes the step in his stride. For every Njie and Nkoudou who look lost, then look at how Vertonghen and Sanchez went from the Eredivisie and seemlesly transitioned.

There’s been so many players we could have got.

I mean, we should get liverpool’s Chief scout for one as they just buy quality players for reasonable prices bar the last years prices.

Salah, shaquiri, Gomez, lallana, mane, firmino, etc.

Then elsewhere with Maddison, maguire, pereira, at Leicester.

We have signed Sissoko (playing well of late but technically poor), Aurier, Moura (jury is still out imho), Llorente, Janssen, etc.

We have signed Sanchez, son and Alli in this time too granted.

The point however, is that there are good players out there that we should be targeting but instead we seem to sign 3rd choice players or spend all summer going for a rabiot or Isco which we are never going to get.

Better surely to go for the likes of Leon bailey, Jonathan Tah or Kai Havertz at a struggling Bauer Leverkusen or to have bolstered our squad with Maddison and maguire due to us not having enough home grown?

Now we have eriksen, Dembele, Vertonghen and Toby all running their contracts down too.

Can’t help but think levy has taken his eye off the ball and focused too much on the stadium.

Not sure what happened with Paul Mitchell but surely would have been better to have someone like him focusing on the scouting side for the last couple of seasons?

I’ve not seen Berge play but hopefully this will be a signing in the Alli, firmino, mane, type standard as we need quality reinforcements now.

I have had real doubts over our ability to scout players outside of the UK for some time now. Realistically, the only players we seem to get any successes from are players coming from Ajax. I would really love us to get a serious DOF who knew what they were doing, as I really think our recruitment strategy is a mess. If there even is one at all. This summer could brake all the good work we have been doing. Loosing Toby and possibly Eriksen on top of our need for two new CMs, a new CF understudy and, really, two new full backs is a hard task for anyone.

Its hard to judge from videos but he doesn't look like he has much pace? Not sure if that could be a big downer for playing in the Premiership?
