RUMOURS: Spurs in negotiations to sign Barcelona starlet

For the second time this season, Spanish daily Sport claims Barcelona are willing to sell Sandro to Tottenham.

January is just around the corner and although the winter transfer window is typically subdued, the media is set to enjoy a month-long feeding frenzy of gossip and rumours. Unsurprisingly, the European press is no worse than the UK's.

Below is the front page of Wednesday's edition of Spanish daily Sport, which brings news that Tottenham have held talks with Barcelona forward Sandro, 20.

Apparently Barca are willing to allow Sandro to leave in January, which is hardly surprising since he's a forward and, well, they have a few rather good ones ahead of the Spaniard.

Sandro, however, has made a respectable 13 appearances in all competitions for Barca so far this season (without scoring) which, alone, is enough to suggest he is a talented player.

As a young, versatile Spanish-speaker, who wouldn't mind playing back-up to Harry Kane, provided he got plenty of minutes, Sandro fits the bill for Tottenham.

Incidentally, this story is very familiar. In a front page splash in October, Sport said Barca aren't prepared to accept a cent less than €10m (£7.5m) from Spurs for Sandro.

Sport is based in Catalonia and has close links to Barca, so there could well be some truth in this fresh Sandro rumour, particularly as the newspaper has now repeated it.

Keep watching this space.

Reads like his agent wanting to get him a new contract.

Link him with Spurs. Everyone knows we've got a bit of cash and after a forward.

We really are the go to guy as far as agents are concerned.

Surely that doesn't do any harm when we are negotiating for our actual targets. Or is it naive to think chairmen of other clubs (West Brom) actually buy this?

Eriksen has more than 18 months left on his contract. He has 30 months left (i.e. 2.5 years)

Ah thanks for that - just done a bit of research. Eriksen signed a 5 year contract, so 2.5 years left. Standard misled me by saying 2 years, which I thought meant from last summer.

Actually means no real worry at all on the contract. If Eriksen wants to stay (and I hope he does, amd no evidence to say he doesn't) there's plenty of time to finalise and sign it.

Yeah, Eriksen, Chadli, and Lamela all have contracts expiring at the same time.

I'd expect new deals for them sometime soon. Vertonghen as well.

This is one of those rumours that ticks all the boxes, until you realise that he'd be going from backup at Barcelona to backup at Spurs. He's actually played a fair bit for Barcelona this season, including a number of starts, so I'm not sure how he's "out of favour". That may change when Vidal and Turan are available, but I still think it's unlikely when he stands to win multiple titles this season.

Barca will have to move some of their forward talents along at some point though.

They have the obvious world class 3 of Suarez, Neymar, and Messi.

Then they have Arda Turan who will arrive next year and also young attacking talents in Rafinha, Munir El Haddadi, and Sandro. Some will surely be getting moved on.

In January, this is a a far more believable rumor than buying Berahino for 23m.
Am sure Pochettino can get the best out of him. He plays in similar role to Jay Rodriguez. Who knows, he could be a ideal partner to Kane up top (or on LW)

He might be back up but there will be a lot more opportunities for him here than at Barcelona.

He doesn't score enough. The article says it all really, 13 appearances including a few starts and no goals.
