Capoue missed games last season through injury as well; and I'm not so sure this was a M.P. decision...already it looks as if Levy is running the ship as far as transfers go.
Good point about Capoue. Not sure about his injury record prior to joining us, but all players get injured at some point, it's just that there are some who are perennially injured and Sandro (and Kaboul) seem to fit into that category.

Sad to lose Sandro, but delighted we didn't waste £20 million on either Welbeck or Lallana. Come on the Poch.
I heard that Welbeck was available for £1 million; also who is going to be up front for Spurs when the African Cup of Nations is on in January, that 'deadly duo' of Soldado and Kane?

Sad to see him go but we have signed his replacement. I'm more concerned about Holtby leaving if Erikssen gets a knock who covers for the creativity.

I suspect Paulinho is now considered Erikssen's competition for the AMC position.

So that CM position is between Dembele, Capoue, Stambouli and Bentaleb

I guess we'll see how that deadly duo get on between now and january, Kane has been good in the last several games he's be given regular play, Soldado has a chance to wipe the slate clean. If Ade does go to ACN and we deem those 2 not up to scratch at that point, then we might get someone in January either as a short-term loan cover or on a permanent basis.

Agree that Stambouli is DMF / CB and has reliability of appearances. Looks like MP is doing the 24 or 25 man squad with a couple of free picks young lads. As to Levy dictating on transfers, I do not think so, he is backing his manager and DoF. As he knows, that more players out than in, releases the wages available should we need to have a few more top quality players (ST LW) next window 2015. Or increase contracts on players we have.

This is one of those occasions where a player leaving is sad, but probably best for all concerned. Like when Paul Robinson left - amazing first couple of seasons, but needed to be moved on (for different reasons, obviously)

Spurs1961, yes I liked Robinson, but his miss kick / resulting goal in that England Game was his downfall, Poor guy got slaughtered in the Media, and at every away ground we played at in PL

Hi Everyone, just joined the site. Sandro is injury prone by the very nature of his game. Also we have taken 3 points off QPR, so only one more game to go. In the meantime he can help them to take points off our rivals in top 6 positions all season! Sad to see him go, but we must accept MP decisions, of who he wants, and Sandro desire to play in PL / Cups games.

Welcome to the site, I'm sure you're going to be an excellent addition ;)

I disagree, Joe. I was one of Sandro's biggest admirers, but I'm able to acknowledge that, in the last few years, he's missed more football than he's played. That makes it easier to understand the reasons for allowing him to go. YES he's an awesome shield for the defence, and a firm crowd favourite. However, when he can only take part in 15 to 20 games per season, in a season that has well over 50 games in it, what's the point in keeping his wage etc at the club, when those 15 or so games could be given to a promising youngster?

I've never seen the lad play, but I've read nothing but great things about Veljkovic (Spelling?), and how he could be an excellent player. We've had years of supporters saying "when was the last time we actually had a player who has made it from the youth set up?", so why not treat this very sad sale of Sandro, as an opportunity that's arose for one of our youngsters?

I'm not saying that's what will happen. I'm simply saying I can understand why he's likely to have been let go. As others have also pointed out, Poch is not only about closing down quickly, he's about quick passing & possession football. No matter how much we idolised Sandro, that is not his game. Capoue on the other hand, he's actually a very underrated passer, especially a nice threaded pass through the middle, so I can understand Poch preferring him over Sandro. Can't say I know anything about the new French fella, but I'd be willing to bet he can also do those things that simply don't come naturally to Sandro.

Any confirmed figure for the fee? SSN were quoting both £6m & £10m last night when I was watching it. Be disappointed if it was £6m, £10m is a good fee for us though.

And that is something, in my opinion, that every one of us should want. Poch has a reputation for making players better, and, I believe, he has stated himself that he gets more pride out of improving a player, than he does from spending millions on anyone.

I can fully understand supporters being gutted about losing The Beast, I'm certainly gutted about it. However, as I just stated to @JoeT , it's been years since we last saw a good prospect actually make it into our first team from our reserves (Rose and Townsend were permanently loaned out, maybe King was the last one we had?), so I'd love it if Poch is doing as you said (y)

Im gutted he has gone but understand why he has done so...

The Beast was never the same after "doing" his knee.

He was always injured.

And he couldnt pass for toffee.

Thanks for the memories (owning AC Milan, that goal against Utd last year, that volley against Chelsea at Stamford bridge a few year ago), good luck for the future!

Everything I've seen today seems to go along with the £10mil that SSN were finally saying last night mate. That £10mil plus his wages (probably over £2mil per season?) is better used elsewhere, if it's not just paying for an regularly injured player.

Who ever it is, it won't be the goal machine Welbeck. Kane has a much better strike rate than Welbeck.

I think the price paid for Welbeck by Arse**l was £16 million, I very glad we didnt spend that on him!

I am a big fan of Sandro and this is a challenging time - I do not rate Capoue and know nothing of the new man.

But all will be forgiven if Pooch delivers.

I have read somewhere that over the last 5 seasons Spurs have a net transfer spend of £21M, the lowest of those that stayed in the Premiership in that time. Plus this transfer window where we come out at the end with a nice profit.

Now I know we have a stadium to build, and all the financial implications surrounding that, but I will feel a whole lot better about how it impacts our transfer spending when I can actually see the stadium rising out of the ground.
Agreed. Don't see the harm in levy just saying a lot of
Money is going into the stadium and we will be much better off in a couple of years

This whole stadium increasing revenue thing is BS. It doesn't compare to the money made by tv deals etc so other than a statement of willy waving, stadium capacity is not as important as it once was.

Anyway back to sandro... Gonna miss him. One player that reached out to the fans and gave everything he had on the pitch. Is one of the best at what he does and still think he had a role if utilised correctly. I can't comment on his injuries or there effects but he will be missed by many and always welcome back.
