So close to an equaliser at the end there. David Weir (I think at least - the BBC reported it as Alan Hutton) had a very good header cleared of the line, thanks to a brilliant bit of defending from Pirlo.

Enjoyable game to watch though. My heart was really pounding about 15 minutes in when Scotland had 3 or 4 corners in quick succession.

I hope the crowd do what we did vs Sevilla at WHL - they know they're probably heading out, but they also know that it's by no means confirmed. Get behind the team, bring the roof down, and hope that Pirlo stops defending like that.

One last thing... When we were in a similar position to this vs Chelsea at WHL, we went like for like. I think Scotland need to switch to a Chelsea style formation. Keep the midfield triangle, but they need to play with width, and get balls into the box. It's a nasty, slippery surface. I'd take Hartley off Miller, with McFadden playing centrally, and McCulloch (left) and Miller (right) either side. Then, if it's not working after 60/65 minutes, I'd bring Boyd on for McColloch, with Boyd in the middle with McFadden (left) and Miller (right) either side.

Good luck Scotland.

I think Hutton also had a chance, but it was Weir at the end of the first half. Hutton made a great bock, and im off to call SK a knob again

1-1 Fergason was offside.... and Italy had one ruled off in the first half that wasn't offside. Game on :D

Scotland really should be winning this. Terrible miss from McFadden. Quality football though putting the world champions under this sort of pressure.

Wish Ireland could play like this..........

Well that's that then. How that was an Italian free kick is beyond me. Joke.

I have a lot of respect what Scotland have done and they do not deserve to miss out on qualification, they have done therselves proud.

Wasn't just that one. Thought the officials had a bad match today.

To be fair. Italy had a goal disallowed which for offside even though it wasn't. And then Scotland scored a goal which was offside and it stood.

Nevertheless you've got to feel sorry for Scotland. They deserved to go through after their two brilliant victories over France. However losing to away to Georgia ultimately cost them.

Really tough on the Scots. They deserved to qualify, no doubt about it. England don't. And it looks like we will, and they obviously haven't. Football can be a **** of a game sometimes. Today is has been.

The good thing from Scotland's point of view is that the qualiying for the World Cup will most certainly not be as tough as it was for the Euro's. They have a good team with young players like Hutton and Brown coming on leaps and bounds.

The future's bright for the Scottish national team.

Chin up lads. You did youselves proud.
