Parker is a much better player than Jenas, lets have it right here when has Jenas ever come close to winning the Journo's player of the year.

For crying out load BC persepctive please.

I do think Paker and Palacios would also be a good pairing but Sandro isn't the one in the middle of transfer negotiations. That said though I feel Sandro is a better footballer than Palacios and he's younger with more potential. I think he reads the game very well and is understanding positionally for someone as young as he is....is exceptional. He'll be a better player than Palacios, he arguably already is. I understand your arguments for keeping him but he will procure a hefty fee...not to be overlooked if you're Dan Levy.

I like Wilson dont get me wrong and would have Jenas out before him but he will command a decent fee and Levy will see this as an opportunity to recoup most of that 12 million - if not all of it.

Parker is a lot more tenacious than Jenas, and he has a good bit more footballing ability than Palacios...I think all round he'll be a great signing for a couple of seasons anyway.

We need top 4 next season or we are going to lose our best players, its as simple as that. We need players coming in who are going to hit the ground running and Parker fits the bill...his leadership qualities will be big too, we need characters on the pitch, something we always seemed to have lacked.

Harry might have is eye on England and is thinking short term but in reality its what we need, we have to hit top 4 next season and need players in who will have an immedidate impact.

I have always like Scott Parker and have wanted us to sign him every time he's moved previously. I like his mentality and combination of tenacity and ability to chip in with a couple of goals/assists a season.

But Parker isn't a much better player than Jenas. He's more tenacious and a better tackler. But Jenas is a better footballer going forward and has been his whole career.

For example contrast the last season that both played similar time on the pitch 2008-9. Jenas played 2500 minutes, Parker 2400 minutes. Parker contested 120 tackles, Jenas 85. But Jenas scored/assisted combined 7, Parker 4. Att Created Jenas 42, Parker 23. The previous year Jenas's goals/assists was 10.

And with people like Sandro and Palacios in the squad what we really need is someone who can put a foot in, get up and down the pitch but who will also chip in with 8-15 goal/assists a season. That is why I would keep both Palacios and Sandro ahead of Huddelstone, because he is never going to be a dynamic box to box midfielder and Palacios and Sandro are both much better defensively than him, allowing a better box to box player to play next to them if needs be.

This has always been my problem with Hudd. He is a decent passer of a football, but that is his only real asset. He doesn't get up and down the pitch. He doesn't contribute much offensively, he is a liability when the opposition have the ball. In short we have two players who are jack of all and master of none (him and Jenas) and he is the master of least.

I understand the logic of Parker 5 years ago, even three years ago, but his old, injury ravaged legs aren't going to get him up and down the pitch as well as we would like. He'll be a decent addition to the squad - but I'd sooner wait for a better upgrade on Jenas and/or Hudd and keep Palacios.

If Palacios stays as well as Parker and one/both of Jenas/Hudd goes I would less troubled.

The thing is, even if we sign Parker and sell 1 of Palacios/Hudd/Jenas,we still need to buy another CM because 5 midfielders is not enough to make a serious challenge on all fronts next year.

To be honest I really don't understand the speculation surrounding Scott Parker,30yhrs in age slightly injury prone high wage demands. People might say he has leadership qualities/holding midfielder...well, west ham did get relegated and by a clear distance.

We have midfielders IMO better in Huddlestone Palacios Sandro Modric on his day Jenas, though if the club feels the need to move JJ on, then SP or Charlie Adams would be suitable replacements.

Really though we need that striker, fairly quickly, hoping we do business pretty early and stay away for the last minute disruption deals.

I don't often post, dudes, but I felt I had to. Hudd is an excellent player with skills nobody else in our squad possesses. His long range passing with either foot splits defences, his partnership with modric is technically excellent and kept possession superbly throughout 2010, and he has an amazing shot on him too. His positional play has improved immensely and I wonder whether some people's opinions have been coloured by his underwhelming return from injury at the end of the season. Up till before Christmas (not to mention most of last season) I thought he was outstanding.

I've always liked Palacios but he is clearly half way out the door, as is O'hara.

Therefore, if Parker does sign, then room has already been created in the squad for him. Jenas may well end up staying. He seems happy to be a squad player, which is another reason why you may still see him at the Lane next year... ?

Tottenham's Harry Redknapp closer to signing West Ham's Scott Parker

• Deal would be helped by sale of Wilson Palacios
• Hopes of signing Leandro Damião appear stalled

Harry Redknapp is closing in on the capture of Scott Parker from West Ham United and the deal is expected to be completed once the sale of Wilson Palacios is agreed. The Tottenham Hotspur manager may also welcome the 21-year-old Brazil striker Leandro Damião, although the deal is being driven by the chairman, Daniel Levy, with Redknapp thought to prefer a more experienced signing.
Levy has offered £11m to Internacional for Damião, which has been rejected and the Brazilian club, with whom Tottenham have a commercial partnership and from where they signed the midfielder Sandro, intend to keep the player until the end of the year. The Brazilian championship ends in the first week of December. If Levy, though, were to raise the bid to nearer £18m, Internacional could be persuaded to sell this summer.
Damião has also been linked to Arsenal, Barcelona, Roma and Benfica and Arsène Wenger, the Arsenal manager, is expected to watch him play for Brazil in the Copa America, which is scheduled for 1-24 July. Much will depend on how Damião performs in South America's major international tournament.
Redknapp, who has completed the Bosman signing of Brad Friedel after the goalkeeper's contract expired at Aston Villa, has made no secret of his admiration for Parker. The 30-year-old, who is valued at £8m, will leave West Ham after their relegation from the Premier League and Redknapp heads the queue to sign him.
The task will be made easier for Redknapp when he has sold Palacios, who is a target for Napoli. The £12m signing from Wigan Athletic has struggled for form. The midfielder Jermaine Jenas also faces an uncertain future at White Hart Lane.
Redknapp is delighted with the signing of Friedel, describing the 40-year-old as a "fantastic professional" and he said the American's arrival should not spell the end for Heurelho Gomes. Tottenham's third-choice goalkeeper from this past season, Stipe Pletikosa, has returned to Spartak Moscow after the Russian club demanded a fee to make his loan move permanent, which Tottenham were not prepared to pay, and Redknapp said he needs three senior goalkeepers.
Gomes, though, has only a year to run on his contract and has been linked with a move back to PSV Eindhoven. Tottenham last month gave the back-up goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini a new one-year contract.
Redknapp wants to give the central defender Jonathan Woodgate a pay-as-you-play deal and he intends to discuss the matter with Levy. The chairman, though, is nervous about keeping Woodgate because of his well-documented injury problems.

While agree JJ hasnt been one of our star players, so say he did nothing in the 4-0 madrid loss is harsh, and also the 4-3 loss to inter..... we were down to 10 men in both games and to be fair, apart from bale no one else on the pitch in both games did anything of note

fantastic. We lost 4-0 to madrid and only 4-3 to inter because of bale. I dont remember Jenas doing anything of note in either game tbh
It's also worth noting Jenas only started those games because of VDV's suspension and Lennon dropping out at the last minute in Madrid.

It was either Jenas in the middle or a youth player- he hardly won his place in those games off the back of his own merits.

Now we have the Harry Sun column raving over Parker it's beyond all doubt that he wants to sign him. He did the same with Joe Cole last year.

Oh I was merely pointing out that it's a myth that Redknapp dislikes Jenas. I personally wouldn't want him in our colours ever again.

fair play BBLG. I quite like Jenas and think he is slated too much - however I dont like the way he is happy to just sit and be a sub for us. where is his desire? I hope he goes to another PL club as he is good enough to be playing premiership football week in week out.

Jenas against Inter away? Watch the Bale goals again and look at who runs the full length of Bale's run with him and takes the defenders off him.

JJ has not set the world on fire this season but do give him credit where it's due.

if the biggest credit you can give to Jenas is that he ran the length of the field then i would say there is a problem!

Parker has been awful for England today, I just don't rate him and fail to see how he is better than Palacios.

I'm sure you know that what I am saying is that because he was able to keep up with Bale he took defenders off him, allowing him to shoot / cross. This is something that has been missing at times in the PL when defences have been doubling up on Bale and minimising his impact. Especially when there is no-one up there with Bale for him to lay the ball off to quickly.

England were poor today, most of them really. I guess most will judge on one game though - shocker.
