This is pathetic from the SFA, and will hurt Gazza a lot.

Scottish Football Hall of Fame have decided to withdraw Paul Gascoigne's nomination due to a number of factors, including "concerns" over the former England and Rangers player's "health".

Gascoigne was one of five to be inducted at the Hampden Park awards dinner on October 21.

It was revealed on Thursday at least one SFA board member would boycott the dinner because he believes Gascoigne's berth is inappropriate.

A statement released by the HOF said: "Further to consultation with the Chair and the Scottish Football Hall of Fame committee, due to a number of factors including ongoing enquiries and concerns over the state of Paul's health, it has been decided to withdraw the nomination of Paul Gascoigne at this time from this year's nomination process."

Gascoigne, who has suffered from alcohol and drug addiction, joined Rangers in a club-record deal from Lazio in 1995 and scored in an early-season 2-0 away win at Celtic.

Nominees for the Scottish Football Hall of Fame are put forward by members of the public as well as an independent committee of ex-players and journalists.

Other famous names who have already been inducted into the Hall of Fame include Matt Busby, Alex Ferguson, Kenny Dalglish, Bill Shankly, Brian Laudrup, Henrik Larsson and Graeme Souness.

Eh? He was fucking brilliant up there, Scottish football will have never before, and never since, seen a player so good.

Is this some Celtic nob still bearing a grudge for the piper thing?

No it's more against his off field antics ( alcoholism and drugs ) I would guess but that has nothing to do with what he did on the pitch

Sir Matt Busby was dead 10 years before he was inducted. As health concerns go surely that trumps Gazza?

Pretty pathetic to be honest. At the end of the day though does anyone actually give a flying fuck about the Scottish Football Hall of Fame? I'd never even heard of it until this. The whole idea of a "hall of fame" seems very American to me. Is there an English one too? Just some meaningless group of old grumpy Scottish blokes trying to make it seem like they're relevant in some way I suppose. Fuck 'em.

Tottenham do their own hall of fame.

But I live up in Scotland and never heard of the Scottish hall of fame also until this!

Weird. Never heard of the Tottenham one either. Like I say to me the whole Hall of Fame idea seems like an American thing.

Next thing you know we'll be eating stuff like hot dogs and burgers and watching American Football in our stadium.

So if someone went down the list of everyone already in the Scottish HOF, we'd find they are all upstanding, ne'er a dram past their lips, church going, moral champions?

Good to know.

Why was it such a talented player like him ended up playing in that joke league? Surely even in 95 he wasn’t at a low enough level for prem clubs not to be interested? He’d have made us better, that’s for certain.

Play for a low PL club who will get beat most the time.... Or play in Scotland and be guaranteed to win a cup/league or more each season?! And be in Europe for a few games.

Reckon we’d have won something with Gazza, Sheringham and Klinsmann in the team :)

Back then Scottish football, although not brilliant, wasn't considered as bad as it is now

Celtic and Rangers at least were considered big clubs and there was always talk of them joining the English Leagues

As for Gazza, by then he was carrying 'baggage' as well as a serious injury (or two). Rangers were prepared to pay him 15k a week (according to wiki) in 1995, so it made sense really.
