Seems to me that there have been some quite pleasing changes during this window. Players like Van Dijk, Sanchez, Coutinho and Costa have not been allowed to leave simply because they've thrown a strop. Players like Barkley and Oxlade Chamberlain seem to have identified that there is something equally, if not more important than money and have chosen a previously unheard of option - to go to clubs who actually want them to play football rather than just tick a box on their quota sheet. Sessegnon staying at Fulham rather than jumping at the chance of the EPL and PSG being investigated for obscene spending and ignoring FFP. Long may it continue.

The Van Djik, Sanchez and Coutinho fails will cause players especially the top ones to have clauses in their contracts for certain clubs or minimum fees so they don't end up in the same situation, Coutinho is said to be devastated.

Llorente might actually be the best example of this. Gary Neville speculated as much on SSN the other night. Said perhaps he chose Spurs over Chelsea to avoid the ruthless atmosphere at Chelsea. (Can't remember which word he used exactly - it may not have been "ruthless", but it was something along those lines.) In fairness, Llorente may also have seen more opportunity for game-time at Spurs, but all in all I suspect the other stuff played a part. Maybe ditto Barkley.

Also, in a small way, if you're on £90k a week and then start earning £190k a week, your lifestyle doesn't actually change.

Sure you have more cash in the bank, but you're still driving a sports car, living in a mansion, married to a model and surrounded by whatever toys that you want; basically everything that you used to be doing before.

Even the average footballers are so well paid now that they can pick and choose whether they want to play football week in, week out, or earn more money on the bench of a bigger club.

I was at the beach the other day, and the tide did seem to come in a little higher. I thought it was climate change, but it could have been the transfer window.

Are you sure it wasn't someone talking about Conte's 'hair' and using the word "rootless"?

Perhaps, like Conte's hair, Conte's stay at Chelsea will be temporary.

The TV money has also allowed clubs to refuse offers too. We're in a world where Southampton can turn away £60m for one of their players and not be too concerned about it. This is a club that nearly went out of business a few years ago and if you'd told them then that they'd be turning away £60m in a few years they'd think were mental.

yup but then they get less money per week --- business has trade offs.

This is really good news....even though every club runs the risk of being on the wrong end of a deal once in a while....football will be vastly better if the Citeh's and Chelskis can be thwarted from stashing away talent
