I have absolutely no recollection as to why I started supporting Juventus since I was a kid. It just...happened. And now I can't decide between them and the mighty spurs.

football italia? remember arguing with a chelsea fan at primary school about the relative merits of del piero and gavin peacock, who had both just moved to their respective clubs, fair to say alex went somewhat further:hump:

In what way?

My dad is a United fan and used to take me to games when I was a kid. My sister also supports them so there's always a lot of affection for them and Spurs/United is always a big game of the season. Whenever it's on TV I always go home to watch it with them.

They did try my patience in the summer though.

Major thread bump...

Don't know if anyone has been aware (or remotely interested) in the mighty Cobblers recent form but I thought I'd resurrect this thread of second teams

Anyway...in November/December, Northampton Town were on the brink of administration and going bust. Despite players and staff not getting paid the team went on to win most of their games in that period of uncertainty.

The finances got sorted out (well sort of - the whole financial irregularities and the question of where the fuck is the councils £10m loan is another topic) and the cobblers have enjoyed 10 straights wins taking them 12 points clear at the top of league 2.

I go to a few of the home games as I can take the kids and tickets have been fairly easy to get hold of (until recently).

Apologies for the bump...probably not that interesting for the majority of you :)

Interesting enough!

Like many, Leyton Orient are probably my second team. When I was a kid and Spurs were away, my Dad and I would take the #34 bus (back when it went all the way) to go to Brisbane Rd. Some of my favourite games as a kid were watching the mighty O's - Alan Comfort, John Chiedozie etc etc.

Now I'm in the States, my local(ish) team is the Columbus Crew.

I've gone along to a number of non-Spurs games, sat with one group of fans and 'supported' the team in question (Bristol Rovers, Bristol City and Reading come to mind), but never really got that engaged until...

September 1992. A friend of mine from Devon suggests we go to the Hawthorns to watch the mighty Exeter City. And, my word, they were shite. Completely outclassed from start to finish. And yet it didn't matter to the fans. They were playing a big name in a division that was one above where they normally played (*) and they were having a great time. And so they sang. And sang some more. And sang some more after that. And they only had one song....

:singing: "Alan Ball's red and white army, we're so good it's unbelievable" :singing:

Which, apart from the fact that Exeter weren't an army, nor any good, let alone unbelievably so, was otherwise accurate.

And, you know what, I joined in. The utter incongruity of singing such patent rubbish with such gusto for so long was totally infectious and the mighty Grecians have been my second team ever since.

(*) Fun Fact. When Exeter were promoted from Division 4 to Division 3 in 1989, the Commercial Director got a print run of 500 car stickers that read "I'm following Exeter into the Third Division". He managed to sell 350 of them. The rest were put in storage. Whilst they were in that league, 'Division 4' was renamed 'Division 3' (and 'Division 3' was renamed 'Division 2'). Then, when Exeter were eventually relegated back to the bottom tier - now called Division 3 - he got them out of storage, put them back on sale and sold the remaining 150. (y)

Wycombe would be my second team as I was also born there......
Many a match watched at Loakes Park as a kid, my Grandad always got me a season ticket. :) Best sloping pitch!

I got out of Wycombe, too, lived in Ireland for nearly 20 years! (y)

Like many, Leyton Orient. Visited Brisbane Road long before getting to the Lane.

Have also always liked Fiorentina - since the days of Football Italia. I would've loved seeing the Angel Gabriel at the Lane.

I've never understood the 2nd club nonsense. I'm Tottenham till I die and that's it.

I often look out for Bristol Rovers.

I should look out for Southend United as I grew up there, but I just don't care about them. I suppose I'd be pleased for some long-standing season ticket holders I know if they were to do well.

Norwich, used to go a lot as a kid with family who lived there.

And Udinese, because I now live in Udine.
