Messi? I was making a sarcastic comment about his tax fraud charges - suppose it's open to debate over what's more serious: elbowing a police officer outside a nightclub, or tax fraud worth 2.4m euros.

I believe another poster addressed the issue of the visa, I'm not too sure myself. I'm not even convinced I would like to sign him regardless, just think it's a bit too easy to dismiss someone on the basis of attitude, when all we have is third party reports and testament.

I'm pretty sure it's not open to debate. For a start it's whole lot easier to make restitution on a tax fraud.

The politics of envy is usually what drives most people to be critical. Most people don't have the opportunity to 'optimise' the Tax affairs.

Would just like to point out that the character arguments being made against Aurier are pretty weak if you actually look at them. Yes, from a reasonable perspective his acts seem pretty detestable. I can easily agree there. But these were the acts of an immature 22 year old (at the time) and who amongst us hasn't done very foolish things when we were that age? The police thing was always questionable to me. Unless there is video of this guy MMA-ing the officer's head into the concrete it could have easily been the officer laying hands on him and Aurier pushing/snatching his arm back not respecting his 'authoritay'. Happens all the time here in the abusive police-state of America. So until there visual evidence to the contrary it's a trumped up charge. As far as Blanc goes maybe there was personal between the two and Blanc mistreated him. Yes, Aurier was stupid and immature to lash out but who at that age hasn't done stupid things. The question is has he learned and matured from these acts? I don't know but we would be derelict not to investigate if we thought he could help us. If we expect players to be mature in their actions we should be mature in our understanding and expectations of them as well.

edit: And I can easily make an argument that Ronaldo's premeditated defrauding of millions of Spanish citizens that he makes his money off the back of is a more detestable act than Aurier's immaturity. Easily!

Elbowing a police officer

AND Referring to your manager using a homophobic slur

AND Saying your manager is having sexual relations with a player

AND Insulting multiple players on your own team calling them shit etc.

Yeah I'll pass on that and I'd prefer the tax fraud guy.
Wasn't aware of all that. As much as I'm sure a lot of this goes on behind closed doors with other footballers, not what you want to see and I'm sure not something you'd expect from Kane and co. Makes it all the more strange that the Pereira link has gone so quiet though.

Just saying thanks for recognizing a reasonable, if not popular, argument in the 'friendly' manner in which it was posted. No one has to agree with me but many want to shut down alternative perspectives instead of actually thinking. Because, I assume, thinking is hard. People forget that most of these players are just kids and they will make the mistakes that kids make.

No problem. It's very easy to criticise, but I can remember some of the stuff that happened in youth football teams I've played for when they go on tour, etc. and as detestable as it is, some of the things Aurier has said and done are really not all that uncommon among young men in that environment. I'm not excusing it, nor are you, but I think people would be genuinely shocked if they knew what many footballers have done or said behind closed doors.

That being said, to do those things in a publicly accessible environment, such as on social media, is pretty idiotic. It doesn't speak much for his intelligence, but I do think it's important that people are allowed to learn from and atone for their mistakes at some point.

Regardless, I do think this is just agent talk and highly doubt that we're actually interested. If we are to spend £20m on a right back, I would expect it to be Pereira.

Wot.

Edit - A bit misleading as other teams seem to have an agreement as well. Here's the article (in French) and I think there's something about us being on pole?

Edit 2 - I think there's nothing in this.

Tottenham Hotspur have a provisional personal terms agreement with Serge Aurier, according to tomorrow's L'Équipe.

No doubting his ability and he is perfectly suited full back to how we play. But it would be a huge risk. He wouldn't start many many games and he's not the type of person in my opinion who would be ok with that.

His Periscope rant was so outrageously dumb, it took levels of complete and utter stupidity to previously unchartered heights. So much so that I had to laugh at the sheer lunacy of it, as I was watching. Totally moronic.

I'd be very wary, but there is obviously an extremely good right back in amongst all that
