United in for Fred and Fabinho, doesn't look like they're gonna go for this guy. Can't imagine PSG can get around FFP buying an expensive midfielder. Real don't need him, Barca do but they're obsessed with Brazilians so they're gonna sign Arthur instead and add Griezman. I'm really struggling to find a top club that will be in for him. Lazio may have succesfully scared everyone off. Although after seeing Torino turn down solid offers for Belotti last year they may think twice about sticking hard to that valuation.

Thing is, how often does it happen that a widely sought after player gets priced out of the market and then ends up going to a Spurs equivalent on a cut price deal?

if it becomes clear that we're in discussions with Lazio & Savic at the end of July, then a City or a Chelsea will swoop in at the last moment offering a bit more and it'll be snapped up. The only way I see this one happening is if it's done early and we pay their asking price, which we wont.

It's frustrating that we seem to be prepared to splash mega money on the likes of Martial, Pulisic, and de Ligt but we aren't linked with a CM in that bracket.

I understand that those players are massive talents that would each represent something of a coup for us for various reasons, but none of those positions are essential for us. We have a pacey, tricky wide player already in Lucas. Son, though not identical to Martial, largely fills the same role. At CB we have Dier and a massive talent in Foyth even if (when) Toby is sold.

The biggest hole in the squad by far is in central midfield, and IMO it really ought to be our top priority. Yet there's no indication that that is the case, though obviously things could be different behind the scenes.

You're commenting in a thread about a central midfielder and it started with a media link, so maybe we are linked with CM's in that bracket :sneaky:;)

I mean probably not very often. The idea is that City move onto Jorginho already and have their CM for the summer. Chelsea are in net spend purgatory right now I think so I can't see them dishing out all that money for him. Maybe not though.

https://www.football365.com/news/agent-united-waiting-to-sell-pogba-before-confirming-signing

Matteo Materazzi told French outlet RMC Sport:“In my opinion, he has already been sold for a few months to a team, Manchester United, which is waiting to sell a big [name], Pogba, to formalise the Serbian[’s arrival].

“Lazio is the team that worked better with the human material that was available: hats off to [Igli] Tare and [Simone] Inzaghi.”

Might be nothing, and he doesn't represent many players according to this - https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matteo-materazzi/beraterfirma/berater/4013 - but interesting anyway. Who would buy Pogba?

PSG have FFP issues.. but if Real sell Bale, perhaps they would, but who buys Bale? Man Utd? HUGE spending if they are to get Bale and Savic.. and probably still wouldn't let Martial go to Spurs.

I don't know the situation at PSG but they might sell some players as well? Some of the players have been linked away before and now: Rabiot, Draxler, Pastore, Neymar

They have huge resources though and Mourinho will be desperate to put pressure on them to compete with City.

That’s why I don’t want us to sell them Toby. There is already a danger they disappear out of our sight imo without giving them a helping hand.

Lazio President Claudio Lotito said he “turned down €110m for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic” and criticised Inter for their approach to Stefan de Vrij.

The patron spoke at an awards ceremony this evening and discussed the midfielder wanted by Juventus, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and more.

“I turned down €110m for Milinkovic-Savic on August 29, so I don’t know how much he is worth now, but I can tell you €100m isn’t enough,” said Lotito.

“I get angry when I read people call Lazio a supermarket. I’ve never put anyone up for sale. In the past they wouldn’t even knock on the door, clubs would just come and take, but now they have to ask for permission.”

The Aquile have lost defender De Vrij on a free transfer to Inter after he refused to sign a new contract.

His situation became controversial when he played, and made a costly error, in the final game of the season that handed Inter Champions League qualification.

“We knew that De Vrij had a deal with Inter, but we had faith in the professionalism of the player. It’s just fate that he made those mistakes.

“We made the choice, (Coach Simone) Inzaghi and I. Inter could’ve avoided putting people in a difficult situation. If the contract had been agreed in January, why announce it just before the game?

“We lost, then whether you can recriminate on various things is pointless. Lazio could’ve been in a different position this season, that was recognised by everyone.

“I was one of those who brought VAR and goal-line technology to Serie A. We are trying to make this sport better, because the fundamental principle is those who deserve it should win. The facts are there for everyone to see.”

Eh, I can't possibly believe thats true about the offer he turned down last year. No one would have valued him at that much last year and people are balking at the price this year. This guy is just using the media to continue scaring teams from even approaching the player.

This one is a total pipe dream guys - I dont know why you’re torturing yourselves, it’s never going to happen
Most likely but its still fun to discuss and figure out how we could make it work. I still don't see why we aren't spending our winger budget and our CM budget on this one guy. I mean will Bryan Cristante and Malcom really make us better than just Savic?

I don’t disagree, but I just can’t see him coming with the likes of Utd around
