He's 1st choice for Southampton, another nonsense story

Honestly, this is what I was saying yesterday. Shane Long has always been a decent striker, not a natural finisher by any means but he's a pest when he comes off the bench and still gets goals.

IF we can't get our main targets then this is absolutely the kind of player we should be looking at on a short term deal.

He's a tireless worker as well, we could do a lot worse.

Southampton only have 2 strikers, I'd be shocked if they sold him... especially to us.

Exactly. Pests are great for the bench. The Japanese gent at Leicester too would be a great get. Not the most skilled but just a different type of work rate. Same thing in basketball. Those rather untalented glue players that just make the right play.

Too much snobbery among our fan base. Long may not be Messi, but the guy is tailor made for what Poch wants from his players.

He literally never stops working, he's excellent at holding up the ball & bringing others into play, he has a decent/good level of football intelligence and, in my opinion, would be a bloody good back-up option for Harry Kane.

Not everyone needs to be a superstar, and who would you prefer as back-up to Kane? Shane Long or nobody?

You could well be right. I dont expect us to sign him, he just nicely supported the point I was trying to make yesterday ;)

He's similar to Vardy in the sense that he's shown his best form at an age when most strikers start to decline. The downside is although he's playing well now, he'll likely only be playing at the current level for another 2-3 seasons tops and considering what Southampton may want for him he'll be a high risk acquisition as we won't recoup any of our investment.

Sorry but I can't quite believe what I'm reading here. If we ca#n't find better than Shane Long, we really are right up shit street.

I always say, the world is full of 'strikers' who don't score (enough) goals, and I'm afraid he is one of them, like Connor Wickham, Bafetemi Gomis, and Steven Fletcher for example. We want a young and hungry goalscorer, someone like the young lad I've been banging on about for a while, the lad from Fulham, Dembele. He's young, he's hungry, hes scoring goals although he's in a poor side, and he's going to be a free agent this summer. Please Tottenham, make it so.

I don't see why we don't go for the in form 23 year old Peterborough striker Washington or the 23 year old Oxford striker Roofe. Both would be low risk signings, cheap and both have potential and are in form. The latter looked very impressive against Swansea in the FA Cup. If they don't cut it in the EPL we won't have any problems shifting them as they're young and proven goal scorers in the lower leagues.

Why should each player be mutually exclusive? Are you suggesting that, god forbid, Kane gets injured & you'd be happy to entrust the rest of our season to a 19 year old lad with absolutely zero experience of top flight football?

I can understand you (and anybody else) not fancying Shane Long, but I think you're being a little shortsighted, perhaps?

The problem with this is that Long would be a back plan because Levy has pissed off the Chairman at WBA, but he has also pissed off the Chairman of the club who own our back up plan. Anyone spot the theme?

You think we should go for a League 2 striker who is older than Kane, because he looked good in a FA Cup 3rd round tie against an out-of-form Swansea?

M'Kay.

If we're unable to bring in any of our 1st choice targets then yes I would rather take a punt on a talented lower league striker and have 2 strikers instead of just one. Where did Vardy come from? you know, the top scorer in the Premiership. How about Bale, Walcott, Alli, Callum Wilson, Deeney? all came from lower league sides and have performed well to exceptional in the EPL.
