It's funny this has come up today, I was speaking to a gooner mate last night who was speaking to Campbell at his book signing.
When he asked who did he support Campbell replied Tottenham....

I remember when asked at interviews Campbell was saying 'why would I want to leave'? Doesn't that give the club the impression that its only a formality? It was inevitable he was going to be offered a contract. If he discussed it but wasn't offered terms he agreed with then maybe there is an argument. Campbells to blame full stop for me.

I remember Pleat saying the club were offered £20m from Inter Milan and Campbell didn't want to make the move but wasn't signing a new contract either

Pleat's advice was to force the issue - drop him into the reserves and jepodise his international place unless he either signs or agrees to a sale which would at least make money for the club

Either way the situation would have become transparent long before it did (on the day he signed for Arsenal)

I think it was ENIC and Levy in charge at this time and his decision was to wait and hope Campbell signed the new contract

Sounds like typical Levy to me. Just a shame he didn't learn the same lesson when it came to transfers.

Sol Campbell is a lying horrible **** FACT.

1) Didn't leave when teams bid for him.
2) Said he'd stay.
3) Left for the worst team possible after running contract down for 2 seasons.
4) Left Arsenal for free having lied about wanting to play abroad. Signed for Pompey.
4) Left Pompey for FREE. To go to Notts County.
5) When he got a better offer to go back to Arsenal he threw a strop at County and got released after ONE game.
6) After half a season at arsenal he flipped out and got ANOTHER free move to Newcastle.

6 teams. No transfer fees. LOTS of lies.
The geezer is a flat out ****.

Hey Tim what is your take on the rise of Nazisim in post war Germany !.

I guess that's the nub of the whole thing isn't it? Everyone has their own take on history. Different people will put their own spin on the events. Sherwood was actually there (not Weimar Germany) so I'm inclined to take his version more seriously than anyone posting on here.

Oh was he? Was he there during the discussion between the board and Campbell, did he help negotiate terms? The only thing Sherwood is privy to is what has been said publicly and what has been said perhaps privately and publicly by Campbell - I highly doubt the club conducted contract negotiates in the dressing room, so Sherwood hardly has an inside knowledge on the thing

I am really having a dig at the need of Tim to have aview on nearly everything,of course you can say he is answering a direct question from a journo etc ; but it is because of the fact that he is ready with a view that they seem to go to him.
Unfortunately this readiness for headline will maybe cost him future employment as a potential manager.Chairmen dont usually like having there business aired in public ,i feel
