Sherwood says Tottenham were to blame for Campbell joining Arsenal

You do realise that Levy only took over a couple of months before Sol left. There wasn't much he could do about it.

Maybe Sugar wasn't that fussed as he knew he was selling up... Remember reading something on Ceefax saying 'Campbell to stay at Spurs' - getting excited, but then it said he hadn't signed a new contract.... Was obvious what was going to happen.

Sol didn't break any rules - this was the club's fault. Of course he didn't HAVE to go the gooners....

We did not help the situation.
How could GG of all people tell Campbell that it was a total betrayal for him to to join the arse?
How could we appeal to his tribal loyalty with the head gooner as our manager?

And given that Sherwood's loyalties are also mixed, I don't think he should be commenting on this.

Compare two bits of info from Sherwood:

He told The Independent: "Sol had not been offered the deal he wanted early enough in his contract negotiations and gradually time ran out for Spurs without them taking the initiative. By the time they made an offer, his mind was made up to go."

"It caused outrage among the Tottenham fans but in the dressing room it was different. Footballers are pragmatic.I am not sure the players ever really discussed it.

It's conflicting and makes me doubt Sherwood knew great deal about details of negotiations.

I still believe that Campbell's last appearance for Spurs v Woolwich in the 2001 semi final was a sham .. I reckon he knew where he was going
and opted out of playing the full ninety ., Being subbed at about 38 minutes.

Conspiracy theory much ?

What did he need to know?
- What you doing after training Sol.
- Got a meeting with Levy about a new contract.
The next day.
- How'd the meeting go Sol?
- It wasn't what I wanted so I didn't sign.

Sherwood would say anything for publicity and loves to have a go at Spurs. Campbell is just nuts so we probably could not have handled him in a rational way whatever we did. They are made for each other and should team up on the comedy circuit.

He is trying to justify judas defection.
it's bleeding obvious. and blame Spurs.

This is what he said.

"Spurs never forgot the lesson, though, and they certainly never made the same mistake with a player’s contract again."

All of which is true. We should have sorted it out one way or another 18 months before his contract was up. Levy hasn't forgot and will do everything to stop the same thing happening again.

But he was offered new contract, wasn't he? I remember reading him saying he would sign but he didn't. For Spurs that is...

He is having a go at Spurs by talking about it to the press. He is dragging up old wounds for no reason. Just using us to get himself publicity. God help any club that gives him a job as manager.

He is being interviewed and asked questions which he answers. If you don't want to hear what he has to say don't read the article. Simple enough.

Funny, he was subbed in a Woolwich match against West Ham at half time ( they lost 3-2 thanks to being gifted 2 goals by Judas) . That was probably a conspiracy too . Being the mercenary that he is he probably took a bung. The next thing was that he disappeared and instead of taking the blame took the sympathy by claiming some kind of personal mental problem. Well, he probably always had that mental problem. It's called plutomania ( excessive or abnormal desire for wealth ).

And I don't think Sheringham had any respect for Campbell when they played each other after.
