In his opening post, @Trix said: "the players we want to keep and believe in what we are doing will not be sold."

The words are his, the emphasis is mine. If a player is invested in the project (i.e. believes in what we are doing) he will want to stay. If he isn't, Poch wouldn't want him anyway - because his whole approach is based around utter commitment on and off the pitch. So, if he isn't he may want to force his way out (for a bigger pay day, the slightly tenuous prospect of more immediate trophies) - but if that is the case Poch likely wouldn't want him anyway. This one sentence in the OP renders your (customarily, I note) negative comment and any argument you try to have with someone who knows far better than you what is going on at the club, totally and utterly meaningless.

Lloris has already spoken of being tied to Poch - his future will be determined by where Poch is - if he is at the Lane, Lloris will be at the Lane. In other words, he BELIEVES in what we are doing. He won't be sold and he won't want to be sold. Why is that so hard for you to accept? Obviously, if he decides to force his way out he will leave - but he has already said that won't be the case, and the Poch would tell you that if he did that he would no longer be invested so he would sell him and replace him with someone who was invested. So your observation that if Lloris wanted to force his way out he would do, is pointless. Ronaldo (greasy not fat) wanted to force his way out of OT - and he did so - and, your point is? In a very short time, when the stadium is complete and club revenues are far higher, our not inconsiderable wages will be far more competitive with the very top clubs. Why is it so difficult to believe that a player who has bought in to the Cult of Poch might think, another year or two slumming it with this crew, where I can already see we are competitive and that competitiveness is only going to increase leading to a very, very good chance of major honours and an inevitable and promised increase in the core available for wages as revenues increase, might just want to stay. Stay where there is a real feeling of identity about the club, a real feel of camaraderie.

Honestly, sometimes I wish folk would learn how to read text and context before inflicting their opinions upon the World (or maybe use that to reform their core of opinions) (y)
I like this. This is nice

Major argument with Liverpool fan here at work regarding us selling players this summer.
He's adamant we sell Alli and others and for relatively pissy fees considering length of contract.

I'm sorry but I fail to believe this is true.

A Liverpool fan in work, you must be a prison guard or police officer? ;)

I've got a lad works for me who supports the bin-dippers and thinks they'll still win the League.

I think one thing that gets overlooked in our myopic view of Spurs - other teams are dealing with the same issues of player leaving rumours.

Arsenal - Sanchez, Ozil, Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Wenger
Chelsea - Costa, Hazard, even questions about Conte's future
Man City - Aguero, plus turmoil in the entire defense
Liverpool - Coutinho
Man United - Ok, nobody important rumoured to be leaving, but really, who would you want from United?

Its annoying, but its also a sign of the quality of players we have at Spurs. We would be in much worse shape if nobody wanted our players...

Why is it foolhardy?

Because it is completely at odds with the workings on the modern game, completely ingnores our standing, capacity and previous inability to retain our best players and gives the impression that such a thing will not happen regardless of events.

It distorts expectations amongst the supporter base which will then be followed by incessant wailing when reality hits.

The reason I used Modric was because it was the last high profile player that wanted to move to one of our rivals, and it was vetoed straight away. Wenger yesterday said Sanchez won't be sold to a Prem club(if he is sold).

You are also referencing Bosman and using players with short contracts to prove your point, RVP and Barkley. This is not the case with any of our players. We are in a far stronger position.

It was vetoed because of the fee was on offer as well below the market rate, the simple fact is that we only deferred his departure with did not stop this because no club can without damaging itself.

As for Wenger well he also said that Van Persie wouldn't go to United and yet he did. They will readily sell the player to a rivial and take a fee than lose him to that side anyway without one. And this doesn't just come down to players on short contacts, clubs of our standing such as A. Madrid, Valencia and Dortmund have consistently shown an inability to retain their best players after successful periods often to supposed rivals as well.

The real question is why do people still consider clubs with billionaire benefactors and far superior capacity to ours 'rivals'. Certainly in the league campaign this and last year but in terms of medium to long term success and in terms of transfer and salary spend we are not even in the same league. Leicester competed with these clubs last season but they are not rivials to them. When a club can pay 3-4 times the salary than we can and can easily afford the premium to secure their sevices then some of our supporters are seriously deluding themselves with such confidence when it comes to us retaining our best players.

Yep no idea where this walker crap has come from. It certainly is just that though, crap.

I'm guessing the use of the words "certainly" and "crap" is based on opinion rather than any tangible information?

Opinion of course, but doesn't take a genius to realise the media are full of it.

United were rumoured to be losing Zlatan (before his injury), Shaw (to us no less), plus Martial as he and Mourinho don't seem to get on.
