Simon Dawkins has joined Championship side Derby County on a three-month loan.

The versatile attacking midfielder spent time on loan at Villa last season, making four appearances in the Premier League.

He has played three times for our Under-21s this season, scoring once in the 3-2 win at West Ham.

Good luck to him, he's got back from bad injuries in his teens and early 20's and after being successful in MLS the Championsip should be ideal for him.

McLaren (Derby's new boss) I also had him on trial whenm McLaren was boss at FC Twente in January 2012 so he must be familiar with Dawkins

Started yesterday against Brum. A few quotes from DCFCfans:

Dawkins looks good but he must stop trying to shoot or look to shoot every time he gets the ball.

What I saw in Dawkins was a player who likes to get the ball out of his feet and use his pace to catch/keep up with the ball - no real close control evident. It works in games where the opposition aren't on you in an instant, but there aren't many of them in the Championship.

Dawkins - 6. Pacey, fluked his way through players like Jacobs seems to do. Agree with the comment about having the ball 20 yards infront of him and looking better than with the ball having to take a player on. Seem's to be very indecisive? Kept getting in the way too in the first half. Hopefully more to see but at 25 I'm expecting more TBH.

Dawkins was ok, but no real end product,

Dawkins - 6. Potential is there. Really poor for the first 15 minutes but looked dangerous afterwards.

Bit surprised about comments on Dawkins, I thought he already looked sharper than last week. We looked poorer once he went off. He gives us some width down the left. Thought his control and passing were both fine. His shooting was poor though. He'll be a good player for us, I have no doubt about it.

A goal on his 36th birthday in a 1-3 win at Wigan, and plaudits on the DCFCfans forum:

Special mentions for Dawkins and Wisdom

Dawkins and Wisdom in particular were sublime.

Dawkins was my motm just because of his first half performance, we've got to get him on a permanent deal.

what a finish from Dawkins, under the keeper.

26 I think - although it feels he could be 36 as I first heard of him over a decade ago (when 14) !

Originally a potentially great CF, but delighted to hear he can still score as a more rounded forward. Surely to late for him to become a PL player thougth ? Though I'd be verey pleased if he could make a living in the Championship

From DCFCfans:

Dawkins is soooo good.

Dawkins is immense, his ability to run direct at defences using strength and speed is vital. No defender wants to have to deal with that at any level, signing him is an absolute must

Had my doubts about Dawkins originally, but my he looks dangerous now. Moves like a gazelle and makes intelligent runs

Dawkins is looking a real player now.

Dawkins still an enigma to me. Seems unwilling to work hard, scared of a tackle but then does something brilliant!

Dawkins was dangerous all day long.

Dawkins was quality, his movement was really good.

Dawkins looks really good, he's got fast feet, decent control and lifts his head up.

Got to say, he was fucking awesome today from the highlights

Ye was going to ask if anyone else caught the highlights, looks a different level to the rest of the players. His dribbling, passing and creativity was impressive. No wonder our club didn't want to just release him there is clear talent there.

Big kudos to Tim for rescuing him off the scrap heap after Harry had let him go; he really does look like a footballer.

My dad(United glory hunter) watched the Derby match instead of the United match:ROFLMAO:

But he said he was the best player on the pitch and motm despite not getting a goal

Harry didnt let him go, he retired through injury

Harry brought him to QPR this season and McLaren saw him then(QPR didnt take him though, clearly) and then wanted him at Derby

My recollection is that at the end of his first season Harry cleared out the reserves to bring through the academy graduates (Townsend, Caulker et al). Dawkins was among those who contract was not renewed, but he certainly had no intention of retiring; he had trials at clubs immediately after leaving Spurs, but could not show to advantage because he was still carrying his injury. It was after he asked to train at Spurs the following close season that he caught the eye of Tim, who got him a new contract.

I heard that the medical team or whoever felt he was going to be fit enough after his really bad injury

Tim and Les then was like what the fuck he was a top prospect, not because he caught the eye but because Dawkins was highly rated at the club and looked like a player when they were still tottenham players.(Tim and Les said this themselves)

I think he then proved his fitness to the guys who got rid of him and came back and then they tried to get him a club and only San Jose took him on. Credit does go to Tim tbf.

As for the Reserves I felt that was the right move to get rid of the reserve team but he didnt get rid of the players, just pulled out of the league(which was shocking) and made their own fixtures (tottenham XI). Plus we loaned the academy graduates out as soon as possible like Yeovil, The O's and etc.

That all sounds feasible, and I am happy to concede to your superior knowledge.

as for the reserves, I was referring to the dismissal of the then personnel. From the time Harry took over he showed zero interest in the then development group; in the UEFA cup he used the academy lads in preference. Of the then development group outfield players only Livermore and Rose I think were kept on into Harry's second season.

For what it is worth I always rated Dawkins!

I agree but Harry was shocking at integrating his fringe players and in the latter years he did well with youth but we had a very good age group.

I think we are in a similar situation now, got highly rated players but are almost writing them off and waiting for the next generation!
