Simon Dawkins has joined our club partner San Jose Earthquakes on loan for the duration of the Major League Soccer season until the end of December.

The forward recently signed a contract at the Club until 2013 and has had previous loan experience with Leyton Orient in the 2008/09 season.

Simon originally met his new teammates during San Jose's 10-day preseason training camp at Spurs Lodge last month and will now link up with the team ahead of their opening MLS fixture this weekend when they host Real Salt Lake.

From Edgware to California

I thought we released him ages ago?

Anyway, best of luck to him, if he impresses there he might well go on to forge a decent career.

Yeh we did but he had big problems with injury and we alowed him to train with us, but he impressed on trail and was given a 2 year contract a couple of days ago. Having said that I will not be suprised if this loan is put in place in the hope he will join them pernemently (he is 23)

Good luck to the lad, to have such injury problems before you have the chance to establish yourself cannot be easy. If he hits the ground running he could find himself having a very nice little career over there.

As a comparison, realistically, what do we think of the standard of the MLS?

If he's getting goals there is that the equivalent of getting goals in the Championship? Or League One?

Probably not as good as championship level,
but difficult to compare with lower as well as it would be a different style of football.

I did a bit of a google after posting my comment and there are mixed reviews, some say it's better, some say it's about the same and some say lower than that. So I dunno!

Having never ever seen a MLS it's impossible for me to say.

At 23 Dawkins must be close to last chance saloon for us, though I know he had a massive injury at one stage.

I live 30 miles from New England Revolution, never go! But Players like Clint Dempsey emerge out of the league and that says a lot. Physically the kids are really in shape in the USA and they try to play pretty football but in truth the league has a long way to go! But it is more than competitive enough for developing players in the Spurs academy / reserves.

From the above link, not good news for the lad:

San Jose
Simon Dawkins (Spurs, loan) and his San Jose Earthquakes did not have a match last week, but worse than that was the news that he will be out for an extended period of time. Dawkins underwent surgery on Thursday to correct compartment syndrome in both his calves. The condition compresses nerves, blood vessels and muscle, leading to tissue death from lack of oxygen. Dawkins had not played since San Jose’s 23 April match, and is expected to miss four to eight weeks from the surgery.

Poor guy, looked like it was going to get good for him over there.

Isn't that what Ziege got once after a game?
