If Lee says he is fit then he starts. Im sure Tainio said he was fit enough to be in the squad, which means he is fit enough to play. He might not have exspected to walk into the team but it happeded.

I don't understand why Tainio said what he said to the press,
Surely if your on the bench you should be ready and willing to play at a moments notice?
I hope Lee can shake off his shoulder problem and be fit for thursday too,
If not then we will probably see Gardener at left back.

Lol. You don't have a clue.

Ever heard of a late fitness test?

Big Tone. He actually made a pretty fair fist of it last season. You're going to get him doing his bemused basketball player act at least once, but since the whole back line other than Leapy currently appears to have the concentration levels of a class of 8 year olds with ADD, what the hell?

I do have a clue, but thats for a diffrent game...

I do know what a late fitness test it, but with most players its usaly their call. I have seen players pull them selfs out of teams because they dont think they are fit enough.

And you also just answered your own question. If Tainio was their he would have passed any fitness requirements to be fit enough to play

Didn't he give away 2 pens by grabbing players rugby style in the box? Or was it one pen and he got away with one?

I thought he was injured too.

So that disproves YOUR thinking. Tainio did not think he was ready and he was thrown in. And it proves I was right when I claimed Jol does not care if players are fit enough to play. I tend to go on facts, not what you think a player may have said to Jol/Physio/Chirpy.

He had to play for the best part of a game. He had only one training session after coming back from an injury. He was probably thinking he may get a late emergency run out ESPECIALLY when Lennon was sitting next to him ont he bench.

Thought I'd bump this as its getting on for 7 years ago but other than sending our first choice left back on loan, is Rose or Naughton (admittedly not his favoured position) actually an improvement on LYP?? Fryers is still pretty young so could step up I guess??

Bored so scanning old threads :)

It is funny reading these old threads. Everyone was so much happier about things back then. There is a massive sense of entitlement about everyone now. LYP wasnt a shaddow on BAE and Danny Rose has a lot more potential than him. The squad then to now is light years apart barring a younger Berbs and Ledley...

yeah, I wasnt saying LYP was better than anyone..just merely stating that we still haven't had someone make this role their own other than BAE and 7 years is a long time

I agree everyone was happier then, full of optimism
