Should we keep singing Sol Campbell's song?

After the game yesterday I saw quite a few tweets from Spurs fans about whether or not we should keep bringing out the Sol Campbell song at the Lane. The general consensus seemed to be that it would be better if we let Judas fade away into obscurity, and that moving on might help create a better atmosphere for our fans and players alike. Personally, I kind of see their point. While what he did was clearly disgusting, it does seem a little weird that after all these years we still feel the need to show him how much it bothered us, like the ex-girlfriend from university that still leaves those angry drunken voicemails about how you left her for Stacy - plus he seems to like the attention and I think it would genuinely bother him more to be forgotten than it does to be hated. I was curious to see what everyone on here thinks about it.

He's scum.

But yes, it's become tiresome, and started smacking of a small-club mentality.

I'd rather the crowd were focussed on energising our current players, than giving that twat undeserved attention.

I do agree with dropping it and moving on, but I would have no problem singing the song and swapping his name out for Wankshire!

if we could stop singing 'stand up if you hate Arsenal' when aren't playing them too that would be great. Its pathetic and makes us look small

I've seen this said before, but EVERY club does it. You get Man U fans signing about Liverpool and City when they're playing Stoke.

Makes us look small-time.

As does "stand up if you hate Arsenal.."

It's transparent. If they weren't more successful than us, we wouldn't be singing it, so it makes them feel good, it reinforces their superiority over us in everyone else's minds, and in so doing makes us look stupid. Great work!

Time to move on

Would prefer to forget that this nasty piece of pond life had anything to do with our club and deny him the oxygen of publicity.

Exactly. It makes my blood boil when I hear it. Fine if we're playing Arsenal but not otherwise.

The Campbell song is much worse than the Arsenal one.

We sing about him like he's important. He's not. He's done.

Why the hell would a song be sung about someone if they're not there to hear it? I've never heard of that before.

Putting football aside for a moment, the man is a paranoid mess. To continue baiting him with abuse is, frankly, inhmane considering he clearly has mental health issues, regardless of what he did all them years ago - right now he needs to slide into obscurity for a while and get his head together, else he will end up losing the few marbles he has left. In normal life, if a friend does something out of character and, over time, displays clear signs of a mental illness you either try and get them help or you go your separate ways - you don't take the piss every time you see them in the street for the next 20+ years. Or do you? Man, you'd be some rotten fucker if you did.

I hate what he did, i hate the way he went about business as a player, but i don't hate him as a human being, i feel kinda sorry for him. Perhaps if he was given the chance to sort his bonce out he might start to understand why the fans of every club he ever played for have felt the need to sing mean songs about him, and he might get a better perspective as to the reasons his life and career went the route they have.

I don't really have a problem with these chants if they are sung on the rare (and right) occasion, yes they are small time but a lot of football chants can be. Its when they seem to be sung every two minutes...

That does not make it any less small time though.

It's kind of difficult calling something that is universal 'small-time'.

It's like saying only idiots bought a black Ford Model T.
