The chronology is important.

Our board (specifically Kemsley and Alexander) had been caught with their trousers down in Seville. But Ramos had turned down our "dizzying offer", and wasn't prepared to come to Spurs at that stage. So, Levy was firefighting, saying BMJ is still the man, and he had full confidence in him. Only for Mills to give his interview to the Torygraph, piling more pressure on Jol.

In New Labour terms, Mills was "off message".
