    SPURS NEWS:

Sunday’s victory at Manchester City made it six matches unbeaten when we’ve returned to league action after a European game.

    Source: Official Site

Always a tough task, we’ve won five and drawn one of those six matches after UEFA Cup action - here they are…

A 0-0 draw against Fulham after Slavia Prague away.
A 2-1 win against Portsmouth after the home leg against Slavia.
A 1-0 win against West Ham after the trip to Besiktas.
We beat Chelsea 2-1 after Club Brugge.
A 3-1 win against Wigan after Bayer Leverkusen.
And now a 2-1 win at City after Dinamo Bucharest.

“It is certainly worth a compliment,” said Martin Jol after Sunday’s win at Eastlands. “Last season everyone commented that all the teams in Europe struggled on the Sunday afterwards.

“We’ve done well and showed a lot of character - we’ve lost two games in 19 now and that’s good momentum.”

At the start of the present season I commented on S.C. that this time around we'd finish third !!!!!

A few ridiculed me but I wonder if they're now regretting their words.

With almost 1/2 the season gone, playing a load more games when compared to last, we're 2 POINTS off THIRD PLACE.

That is pretty f........g spectacular, don't you all agree.

Anyhow, a very very merry Xmas to all on S.C and may this new year bring us a team that makes third in the Premiership, which I'm quite sure many of you will want to toast to, right ?

    QUE VIVA LOS SPURS y
    UN FELIZ NAVIDAD A TODOS

I'd just love it if we beat Arsenal to fourth.

    Merry Christmas to you too

Actually, we're 3 points off third place and if you count our clearly worse goal difference, it's actually 4 points. Goal difference can and will obviously change though.

Nevertheless, after a quite shaky start, we've started to perform in the league as we should. If you consider some of our results (losing at home to Everton, dropping points at home against Fulham, losing to Liverpool and the Arse 3-0, drawing with Watford, losing to Reading), our position and situation is simply excellent. Points-wise we have recently been in better form than any of our main rivals except Liverpool. From the last 5 league games, Liverpool has 13 points, Spurs 12, Bolton 9, Arsenal 8 and Portsmouth 6.

But the best thing of all is that all three of our most dangerous rivals (Liverpool, Arsenal and Bolton) have to come to the Lane and we have already played our away games against them.

Making it to the Champions League will not be easy, but it's entirely possible. We have a clearly better squad than Bolton does, so I'm counting on us to beat them quite comfortably in the end. They usually do fade a bit in the end, mainly because their squad is a lot thinner than their rivals'. Liverpool is in excellent form at the moment and they have a lot of quality in their side, so finishing above them could prove to be too difficult. I think that our dear neighbours could, again, be the team we have to beat to finish in the top 4. It's a long way to go still, but the 21st of April could prove to be a very important day for us.

I wonder where all of the early season 'Jol out!' brigade have gone to?

2 losses in a row and its relegation time again....

The league is so tight this year that being 3/4 points off of third means nothing - the whole league except for the complete extremes have got it all to play for.

does anyone have an idea of how many points we had at this point last year?

2 losses out of the last 19 is the kind of consistency we've been waiting for for years. Its the kind of consistency that means we'll be there or thereabouts in any season in which we maintain it. All credit to Jol for creating a mentally tough team who know how to win and how to bounce back.
Having won our last 8/9 home games, i'm in a mind to think of the team just before Santini (are you David Dein in disguise) left...6 losses on the bounce...or some may have been under Jol but it was still Santini's team.
I'm just chuffed to bits at having a team we can be proud of.
Sorry for rambling a bit too much

34, but we've had harder games this time

Given the teams we had to play at the start, it wasn't that shakey.
