Oliver Skipp has been crowned Premier League 2 Player of the Month for September. The 18-year-old midfielder was last week named on a nine-person shortlist for the monthly prize, which recognises the star performers in the Under-23 competition, and it has today been confirmed that he’s claimed the trophy.

Really impressed by what I see of this kid. Seems to have ability aligned with a fierce mentality which is what you need to make it to the top in any profession. Going to be the next big thing for us I feel.

We seem to have a tradition of gifted, prematurely balding players: Gilzean, Eriksen, Skipp.

The tipping point for me was watching him in the u23s last year against City who were fielding a very strong side (Foden, Diaz etc) and were stuffing us 5-0.
The rest of our side were going through the motions as they wanted to get off that pitch as soon as possible.
But Skipp was still chasing back, he was still demanding the ball, and still trying to get forward with it. It didn't seem to register with him that it was a lost cause (as it had been from kick off).
As the old saying goes, you can't teach that. And, as with Kane, I think he'll do whatever is necessary to succeed at the highest level.
