I think the crackdown on Kodi will send some people back and this will also help

Nope...
I watched Spurs games on Kodi. Those were the only games I watched, as I don't really have any interest in any other teams or games. Until we can legally have all club games available I won't be subscribing to Sky or BT.
I will stick with the Kodi add-on I currently use, and if that ever goes down, I'll use my brother's NBC account and live stream anyway.
Sky having a dedicated football channel won't change anything - you'll still get 5/6 live games per week, and then the rest of the week will be filled with endless re-runs.

But Sky also aren't stupid. They know that by splitting channels by sport, they can potentially increase subscription income. A lot of people won't just pick the football channel. They want to watch darts, cricket, rugby etc. so therefore they're still going to need all the channels and will have to pay for them.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good and overdue move by Sky, but for me, even if they offered me 60% off full package I wouldn't take it, because 99% of their programming is dog shit, appeal to the lowest denominator fare.

ere in Germany they launched the online streaming service called DAZN. It shows EPL, Serie A, La Liga and other leagues, plus Tennis, Cricket, NBA, NHL, Darts. I Pay 9.99 a month for a high quality steam. Only downer is the commentary of the football games are in German, but you can not fault 9,99 a month for all of that! I think next year they also have Champions League rights! You get your early Saturday kick off, a 3pm kick off, late saturday kick off plus ur sunday games and selected midweek games! Dont know if it would work with a VPN for brits in UK...

The problem isn't with the VPN,thats the easy bit, its with getting the company to sell you a subscription if you're not living in Germany, because they're not allowed to if you live anywhere else.

Find the address of a US military base in Germany and use that... or don't your call... you have that

Kodi's a software program that let's you stream TV from the internet. You can watch virtually any TV program, film or sports channel without paying a thing. You can load it onto something like a Now TV box and connect it to your TV like you would a Sky box. Loads of people use it and swear by it, but I've tried it a few times and found it unwatchable.

Cheers nailsy, you learn something new every day! I guess it depends on the quality of your broadband too.

Over here we have 'rural broadband' - basically like asdl - trouble is when there are four internet users
In the house at the same time - especially as two of those are teenagers it can be a bit slow but better than nothing.

We have Netflix but it buffers and stutters so much it just ain't fun.

HS fibre broadband is but a dream when we are in the boondocks.

It does, but I watch Netflix and Amazon video on my projector without any issues so I don't think there's a problem at my end.

Interesting, as a sceptic im sure there's bound to be a catch somewhere lol. Good that Sky Sports Mix is continuing, handy for the occasional free match that channel.

The trick is you have to go through with it.

I ring up and ask to cancel. They ask why and I tell them the reason (too much etc). They then discuss dropping packages which I say I wouldn't want to do and reaffirm my wish to cancel. Then they offer you a minor discount (30%) max normally but sometimes they don't bother.

The trick is to end the call with your sky package cancelled and you starting to serve your 30 day notice. During your 30 day notice they will start making contact from their retentions team where the good deals are (make sure your contact details are up to date and marketing preferences allow contact).

In the last week I have been offered 50% via email and a post and 60% off on the phone. I'm waiting for 75% or 60% + cash back.

Ultimately this may lead to me going without for a few months but the offers will come at some point. For Sky, getting me back even at 75% off is free money as I already own the box and the dish and all they need to do is push the button to set it live again!

I cancelled a few years ago as they wouldn't give me a discount. 2 weeks after my service was shutdown they called & offered me a discounted package with movies & sports, fibre & a 32" tv. Must be honest I don't miss Sky at all. If I want a game I'll stream it but have free BT Sport with Virgin so don't even steam sport anymore.

For about 3 months after we cancelled we would continue to get mailshots etc. trying to woo us back, but they never offered more than 50% discount.
After 3 months they just gave up trying altogether.

Been Sky-free for over a year and don't miss it one bit.
We still have phone/fibre with them, supposedly on a discounted rate, but I'm not sure how that works when it's now being offered at £20 per month, and we're paying £38!! Fortunately this "deal" ends next month, so unless they move us onto the £20 price we're heading elsewhere.

Oh, and unless you already have Sky Q box they won't be welcoming you back with big deals etc, as they no longer support or deal on the old HD+ boxes. You'll need to take it up as new customer under new service.

Not correct as mine is an old box and I still have the 50% off email in my inbox let alone the phone call.
