I remember the days when the Premier League was on Sky Sports 1 and the Football League was on Sky Sports 3. In the middle of a slagging match with a QPR mate of mine I burst into...

We're on Sky 1, We're on Sky 1!
Super Sky 1, You're on 3!

Stopped him right in his tracks and I've been singing it to him ever since. I'll miss the numbers.

Unless the numbers are added to my bank account as a result.

Which is unlikely as I have to get an extra channel for the wife to watch Aston Villa.

So do u need a base package ?
or can i just get sky sports premier league for £18 per month?

you would think that but what about the Main Event channel

I watch very little Premier League games on Sky, all the Tottenham games obviously but I really couldn't care less about watching a couple of mid table teams slogging it out.

Might be a good time to bin all sky sports for good as I can see every single Tottenham game elsewhere anyway and in reliable good quality.

Can see the Sky / BT Sports bubble bursting soon if I am honest, people have less money these days ( inflation rising higher than wages ) and it's going to get worse when the real Brexit effects kick in.

Signs are already pointing that way after last season, which was the first season where subscriber and viewer totals dropped in a long time. I think (and hope) that they've reached the breaking point for what people are willing to pay, and therefore also what they themselves can pay for the rights.

They're not being very clear, but at the moment you can only get Sports if you take up a base package, so I'd assume it's going to remain the same.
Therefore, reality is that you can't watch PL football for £18 per month - you'll need to pay £22 as well for the base package.

Would be nice if I can save money for ditiching Golf, Rugby, F1 etc. But I feel there is probably a catch somewhere...

The catch is their pricing structure... You may as well keep paying the £27.50 and have all 10 channels, rather than drop 8/9 channels and save yourself between £5.50 and £9.50.
Sky know there will be plenty of people signing up at £18 per month, probably £22 to get both football channels, just to get their football fix, so that's why they can keep the entire package at the same price.

I was hoping this wasn't the case but suspected it probably was...so we're looking at £40 minimum to watch the footy then really?
I think i'll be sticking with my NBC sub if thats the case.

Doubt the bubble will burst anytime soon, once it starts going down alarmingly they'll just open up the 3pm games and subscriptions will skyrocket again

It's not up to Sky, BT or even the Premier League though, that has to go through the lawmakers.

Of course, a bit of lobbying and some cash under the table might do the trick...

Sky emailed me but the content is suitably vague for us Irish customers -

Sky Sports have announced details of their revamped package, which will be available in Ireland from July 18th.

The broadcaster’s sports coverage is to be split across 10 sports channels - including dedicated channels for the Premier League, football, cricket, golf and F1.

The new service is available to Irish customers at no extra cost - although it is believed Sky customers in the UK will be offered cheaper packages depending on which channels they wish to receive.

Sky have revamped their sports package as a response to dwindling subscription figures.

Viewers will be able to watch “the biggest events” on new channel ‘Sky Sports Main Event,’ while rugby and GAA will be shown on ‘Sky Sports Arena’ and ‘Sky Sports Action.’

The GAA however will make it onto the new main events channel on the weekends of July 22nd and 29th and August 5th.

Existing Sky customers in Ireland will receive the new package automatically, with prices remaining the same for 12 months.

After the usual haggle I have the full Sky package until November at half price. after that I ain't got a Scooby.

Hoping we will retain the Sat EPL 3pm kick of course.

EPL teams would vote on it. Last vote stems from 1960. With Sky's audience down 20% on last season unless the they drive more wedge from the world markets then it looks inevitable that the 3pm will be offered as a package for Sky and BT Sport to bid for.

I just cancelled Sky and they offered me 60% of the full package. Happens every year.
How far did you go in the process? Did you actually cancel then get the offer to go back or did you get the offer before you cancelled?

Yeah I cancelled and they called me back a few days later. All cancellations go through to a retentions team which is where the good deals are.

Anyone here have Virgin? Just tried to cancel the other channels as I only want the football but they haven't released the pricing yet.

Well, the Sky website isn't very helpful at all. Log into your account to change or select your new Sports package it says....so I log in and there's no such option, it just tells me I already have Sky Sports. Sharp practise at its finest. What ****s.

If you want to downgrade your Sky package you have to spend three months talking to a sociopathic salesman over the phone. Upgrading takes literally two minutes online. Even in the modern world where you sort of expect big companies to try and fuck you atevery turn, I'm surprised they're allowed to get away with this difference in ease of switching packages depending on who the change suits.
