What's new

Sky Sports is changing to sport themed channels instead of numbers and a lower price

It's definitely not available as a standalone product.
As a minimum you have to be subscribed to the £22 basic package.

Well, the Sky website isn't very helpful at all. Log into your account to change or select your new Sports package it says....so I log in and there's no such option, it just tells me I already have Sky Sports. Sharp practise at its finest. What ****s.

They always make it as hard as possible to reduce your package but easy as pie to increase it. They're such gits.

I've got the original bundle with Sky Sports, Talk and Broadband for £68.99 a month. If I can't knock £20 off this by having Premier League and Football only with the movies and kids channels thrown in then this is all a crock of shite.

Wait - So you want to drop 8 Sports Channels, taking that sub down to £19.50 per month, but then want them to add movies & kids effectively for free??
It's £54 just for Basic TV, Sports PL & Sports FL & Movies... Let alone adding Kids, Phone & Broadband.

Fair play if you can get all of it for under £50 - especially as I'm about to start paying £48 per month with them for Phone & Fibre alone!

It's £70 a month for a pretty basic package (not including the BT Sports on top and my season ticket meaning I'm at the home games anyway!). Looking at this realistically, with a toddler and a baby in the house I get maybe an hour, or two at a push, of telly a day. It's basically what I can get on the planner. The rest of the planner is taken up by cartoons from Channel 5 and the wife will watch Emmerdale. Either they offer more variety for £70 or i dump the lot, get freeview and watch games illegally or even better, in the pub with my £70 drinking money. Not bothered about the movies, seem to only watch one a year now anyway!

£70 man. Tell us we'd spend that a month on telly a few years ago and you'd think we were either crazy or were a Professional TV Critic.

That's why we walked away from them with regards to TV.
Our deal ended and they weren't willing to offer anything else. We then reviewed what we actually watched and it was all terrestrial TV - why pay £50+ for stuff you don't even watch?!
The sports just wasn't worth staying subscribed for either once European football went over to BT, so now I just watch via other methods.
If there's Sky TV shows I want to watch or catch up on, I can pay £6.99 for the Entertainment package on NowTV and as it's non contract I can drop in/out whenever. Same with movies.

I'm now starting to shop around for Phone & Fibre.
I want to stay with Sky because I know my Kodi streams aren't blocked by them, whereas BT have been blocking, but if Sky won't give me the same deal as a new customer gets, then I'm walking away.

I'm pretty much googling it all now and doing the same. I'd be happy with a boxset or two a month, the wife could watch that too and get Emmerdale for free and the kids will watch anything bright put in front of them. I'm basically paying the money for 6 episodes of Game of Thrones :D

I pay £36 a month (18 month contract) for orignal bundle TV, PAYG landline (not needed) and sky fibre unlimited on Sky Q. Got a firestick so dont need to add sports but tempted by the movies and/or box set bundles in addition (which we also get at half price)

When I negotiate my phone/fibre price, I'm going to push for the deal they are offering new customers - £40 per month for basic TV, line rental and unlimited fibre.
Why should I pay £48 per month and NOT get the TV???

they'll argue becuase the offer is for new customers only (which i was when i got that deal) however i know a number of people who negotiated with them and got similar results

Depends if they want to retain my custom or not.
They were happy to lose me as a TV customer because I stayed on as Phone/Broadband.
This time they will lose me completely, which is fine by me. After all, if I go to BT, I get BT sport included.

The only thing that stopped me from going to BT was the TV package as wasn't sure if it was as good as sky's and that Sky had the offer on just as we were looking at deals (as well as £135 cashback through quidco)

If you want to downgrade your Sky package you have to spend three months talking to a sociopathic salesman over the phone. Upgrading takes literally two minutes online. Even in the modern world where you sort of expect big companies to try and fuck you atevery turn, I'm surprised they're allowed to get away with this difference in ease of switching packages depending on who the change suits.

Interesting reading this thread and particularly the posts from people based overseas, who seem to be able to get reliable high quality sports packages showing pretty much every televised PL game, and share them on multiple devices, for very reasonable fees.

Incredible really that pretty much the only people in the world who can't watch the Premier League how they would like or for a reasonable price, are people in Britain! We're stuck paying twice as much as anyone else for half the coverage.

I still cannot work out if the Sports Main Event channel is thrown in with any sports subscription or just the whole £27.50 a month package.

I really don't want to keep giving sky so much every month but finding it difficult to take the plunge and cancel.

And it's not like it works in reverse around rest of world either.
For example, in the US you can effectively watch any MLB or NFL game if you take up the relevant subscription, with the exception of whatever game is designated as off-air that day/week.
We're taken for a ride over here when it comes to sports on TV.

You can add BT Sport app for £5 p/m on EE contract, for IPad/Pro. Sadly no airplay/casting big screen or laptop option. But avoids what ever the BT sub is on Sky, £28 p/m?
