Really chaps? We're debating, including showing all the workings out, whether a genuine Spurs (fan, player, manager) legend is actually Spurs?

Really?

Sometimes this place is proper weird.
Not at all - it's a case of whether he's solely associated with spurs, which he isn't.

Gazza is a spurs legend, but he's also equally well though of for his time at Newcastle and Rangers

From knowing the Chelsea fan's side of things, he is (in my experience, to pre-RA-buyout fans) on the same par as Redknapp was with us. You don't have to be at a club for a long time to gain an association. VdV is seen as being "Spurs", as is Friedel (who played more with Villa and Blackburn), Les Ferdinand. Loads of examples.

Look at how associated with the club Klinsmann is, when he only really ever played a season and a half for us across 2 stints.

Point is, you can watch TV and Glenn will be in the studio, and the ticker under him will say something in reference to maybe "Former Chelsea Manager" or " Managed Chelsea to FA Cup final in 1994".... or even references to his odd stint with England - so the sole association to Spurs won't exist for a casual football fan in the minds of the many.

The Gerrard comparison is ridiculous, as he played his whole career with Liverpool, then had one season at Galaxy. Hoddle played for another 8 years with 3 clubs and 200 games after Spurs.

No, what's ridiculous is suggesting that someone who grew up as a Spurs fan, came through the academy and played for over a decade in the first team during which he developed into arguably our greatest ever player, is more associated with a team that he player-managed for a couple of years in his late 30s

A, definitely A. Yes we would have to put up with the future embarrassment that is Sol Campbell but we'd all have memories of a centre-back pairing of Ledley King and Campbell. If we had kept Campbell then Chris Perry would not have played over 100 matches for us.

I wonder if he would have been a different person if he'd stayed at Tottenham. How many of his issues are related to his guilt over the move and the subsequent abuse that he's received over the years?

If a genie popped out of a lamp and said he could go back in time and make it so Sol Campbell never left spurs, would you:

a) Accept that reality knowing that Arsenal might not have their "stint" of glory, and we might have had our own, but know that in the future everyone associated with the club would have the embarrassment that is Sol Campbell, or;
b) Politely thank him but decline.

...or c)

Kick the genie in the nuts and ask for better wish selections.

Fuck me, talk about a straw man!

No one except you said "more associated". The point was that he is not exclusively associated with Spurs.

Then I've misunderstood you, sorry. When you said he's "very much Chelsea" to me that phrase implies that he's more associated with Chelsea than us. If that wasn't what you meant then fair enough, my bad, that's just how it came across to me.

Would you say Andy Booth is associated with Spurs? What about Alan Pardew?

Guys. You’re arguing like two Sol Cambells at a Tory Party conference. Agree to differ and agree that Sol has a few screws loose

Nah, he’s classic bi-polar. Don’t matter where he went b

Frankly I’m surprised he wasn’t a shoe in for Tory London mayoral candidate. With today’s crazy politics he’d fit the bill.

Yes let's bring in a completely unqualified, mentally unstable nutjob purely on the basis that he's BAME. That'll end racism

I find it all a bit weird. Hasn't he claimed he doesn't get jobs because of his race? Now he's looking at taking one that was only offered because of his race. Must be good to feel wanted :D

Just imagine what would have happened if it was reversed and someone said that a white manager would get the job to ensure this or that. Or if it was merely suggested. It would be pandamonium!
You're either qualified, or you're not. End of story. And he clearly is not.

They should be concentrating on getting more bame people to do their coaching badges. Can see a lot of black coaches at smaller sides being pissed off with this. Campbell got picked ahead of them because of who he is not any coaching history. Bollocks.

Chrissy H has been saying this for years - get your badges, get involved, even at a local level with a grubby park league if you have to, just get into the game and show your skills and you will get noticed.

From what I understand, hasn't Campbell got his tickets? Didn't he pass them donkeys years ago, before his faculties started to leave his head-equipment?
