The bloke has zero self awareness and this is something that any manager of people needs irrespective of profession. This will be his first and only job as a manager... Great PR for Macclesfield, who are being talked about, but this won't be the catalyst for greatness for either party.

Main reason I think they’ve done it and it’s why I’ve no sympathy for them.

In fairness to Macclesfield, they're probably going down no matter who the manager is, so why not go for a high profile name and get 15 minutes of fame before they drop.

For some reason, whenever I see this thread title, it brings back the scene from the Dudley Moore film, "Crazy People"

An advertiser locked in a mental insitute needs help so the nurse is trying to encourage him with some support from the other residents, who are all barking mad;

Nurse "Who wants to be an ad-man?"
**half the residents raise their hands**
Dud "Who wants to be a fire engine?"
*ALL the residents jump up excitedly waving their hands in the air**

Who wants to be Mayor of London?
Who wants to be a football manager?

Has anyone asked him if he wants to be a fire engine yet?

It will be interesting to see his coaching staff. I assume he'll give others the opportunities that he said were missing in the game.

His coaching staff will either be a wall of mirrors, a selection of footballs with faces painted on them or one of those free kick training walls with Sol Campbell masks.

It’s a shame really cause there definitely a need for more black managers and this ain’t gonna help.

Only if they can do the job. Where a manager comes from or his colour makes no difference, it comes down to if he/she can do the best job. I don't think Mr C has the ability to gain respect from his players. I doubt if he will last a year and it won't be because of his colour. That club needs someone like Warnock., a manager who can connect with the team.

Nobody looks at the job Chris Hughton is doing and thinks ‘Wow, we should get a black manager’ so why would they see Campbell doing a shit job and think ‘we should keep away from black managers’? More clubs will be thinking ‘We should keep away from Sol Campbell’.

God, I hope he fails miserably and fucks off to wherever he needs to go to help this thread die.

Totally agree. Also I'm kind of surprised people think that being a "a twat" some how rules any one out from being a manager? I'm thinking a decent % of them fit the bill no?

Maybe Sol should look a little closer to home as to why he had been unsuccessful for other jobs.

Story from Peter Crouch’s book in the paper today....When Sol was at Portsmouth he used to have a massage for two hours before the game started. Only finishing just before kick off. He commandeered the two physios...one for each leg. This stopped anyone else getting a massage. When someone complained he looked up and said ...when you’ve got 70 caps for England come back and talk about it.
Also when he was at Spurs no one had his mobile number, not even his managers . He is just not a people person. Could be another half time walk out!.

Edit...it was before training not the match.
I know a chap who’s brother does equality work for the FA, An ex pro and a staunch advocate for BME footballers getting into training and coaching. And apparently according to both brothers, he is an absolute Arse.

Why has he never been invited for punditry?
Even as a one-off guest? (Like Rooney and Terry had been on Sky)
Even just on the WC panel?
Why has he never been asked to stay on anywhere as a coach? (I know he was at Trinidad but they are far removed from knowing him)
Why has he just bounced from one hobby to another without really settling?

Could it be because people can't stand being in his company and want nothing to do with him?

To be fair, they did invite him to be a pundit once.

Never forget...

Sorry, but why is there a “need?”

I’m all for employing black managers if they have the skillset, but saying there is a “need” smacks of employing them because of their race rather than their ability.

Good question my friend. The need is more the fact that the proportion of ex black players getting opportunity’s as managers compared to ex white players is massively disproportionate.

How did I forget!!?

No wonder he wasn't invited back.

This is a perfect example of why he will fail. He's not even listening, he's not even in the same room, he's in Sol's world. Can you imagine when it comes to set-up training drills?
"Let's recreate my header for England against Argentina."

Is it though? Genuine question as I really don’t know what percentage of black applicants are actually getting jobs, when compared to the percentage of “non black” applicants getting employment.
If there is a big disparity then yes, you would have a case for discrimination, if the comparative qualifications are similar. If not then again, the whole thing smacks of employing black people because of the colour of their skin and not because the skills they can bring to bear are better than those of applicants who are not black.

As far as I am concerned, you employ whoever is most suitable, regardless of their skin colour.
