I kinda hope they stay up. It was a 'brave' decision by Macclesfield to hire him, and I was surprised that a guy with such an ego took on the job. I know that it was unlikely anyone further up was gonna hire him but he said he wanted an opportunity and has taken it. Not many former 'stars' are going to start so low.

I'm kinda feeling old cos I remember when we loved Sol and he was our Captain. He used to get interviewed on tv and I still cringe at the thought of the number of times he'd say 'you know' after almost every sentence, you know. It blew my mind, you know. Our Captain was, you know, on tv, you know, talking football, you know. It was always a tough watch, you know.

Since he left I've avoided listening to him. So, does anyone, you know, know if he has, you know, stopped this little quirk of speech? I remember he had a posh girlfriend so I assume it was drilled out of him. His team talks would, you know, drive me insane, you know, if he still says it. You know!

Dido.

I know I'm adding to the thread simply by posting but of all the ex-players I'd like to hear about, this guy is the last. I'd like us as a club to consign him to a tier of memory lower than 'Emil Halfredsson' and 'Bongani Khumalo' please.

Damn, you got me looking up Dido there. I wondered if she was ever his girlfriend (course not). But very sadly, she is a die-hard lifelong Arsenal supporter.

I thought you meant to say Ditto.

But dido means diddo and diddo means ditto?

Man, the internet, you learn something every day.

Thanks Chosen One.

I don't think that was Campbell. It was definitely Ledley who said you know! Also JD used to always say "Definitely" too.

You may be right - I was wondering the same. Time flies, I'm getting older and try not to think about Sol too much! I'm going to have to find some old videos...

Just a Newbie manager bounce hopefully

To be fair, as much as I dislike the bloke, from what I've seen of Macc since he took over they're improved massively so I don't think it is just a new manager bounce. I was at the game against Tranmere on NYD and they started that game in the old way they used to play, just lumping it forward like a lower-leage cliche, but then second half they came out and played some great football and you could tell Campbell had given them a proper game plan during the break and reminded them of what they'd been working on in training etc. In the end they came back from behind to get a well-earned draw that day.

The problem that Macc traditionally have is that they just don't have the money to give players big contracts so you have most of the team on short-term deals. The obvious issue with that is that at the end of the season, all the players who were half-decent just end up leaving on a free to a better club in the division or even step up a league, meaning that the club has to pretty much start from scratch every year or two and hope that a few of the new lads turn out to be decent. The same applies to the manager. When Incey took over he was a revalation, did even more impressive job than Campbell is doing and kept us up, but then was poached by MK Dons, along with a couple of our best players. If Campbell keeps Macc up then the same will happen to him no doubt and it'll be back to square one all over again and the cycle continues.

Whilst we’re al revelling in a West Ham’s defeat spare a thought for the greatest mind in football.....,

Away at Cheltenham and 1-0 up. Have a player sent off but then go 2-0 up. Shut up shop? Not Sol. Lose 3-2. Lovely

The Football Association is investigating claims that Macclesfield Town boss Sol Campbell was subjected to homophobic abuse during Saturday's League Two match at Cheltenham Town.

Former England defender Campbell, 44, took charge of the Silkmen in November.

Cheltenham director Paul Godfrey said they were "co-operating" with police to try and identify the "relatively small number" of people responsible.

"We should not have to deal with this kind of behaviour in 2019," he said.

"We condemn the actions of those responsible in the strongest terms and will take action against anyone proven to have been involved."

The Gloucestershire club also said they would reminding stewards to report any discriminatory chanting immediately.

Speaking to BBC Points West, Godfrey added: "We've reviewed it thoroughly, the problem was that it wasn't relayed to the control room quickly enough. If it had been done straight away we would have been able to get some resources in to deal with it.

"We've taken steps now to rectify that and make sure it doesn't happen again."

Pathetic. It's bad enough when we do it and at least, while it's not right to be racist/homophibic regardless, at least we've got a reason to hate him so you can see the sort of warped logic behind why it's happening even if it doesn't excuse it. What the fuck have Cheltenham got against him though ffs? It's not even like they have a big rivalry with Macc either. Just makes no sense.

There must be a hundred things you could throw at him without needing to resort to racist or homophobic abuse.

Spot on. He's one of the strangest people in football so there's plenty of material to take the mickey with let's be honest.

Whose job is it to keep me entertained in this thread? Whoever it is, you’re failing and I’m having to do it myself.

Yesterday the team managed by the greatest mind in football lost 3-1 away to Mansfield Town

Meanwhile Notts County gained a point and are only 5 points adrift with a game in hand. Our favourite League Two team Morcambe has their game postponed. They remain 2 points ahead with a game in hand.

Bottom of the table Notts County win 1-0 against promotion chasing Mansfield closing the gap with the team managed by the greatest mind in football.

Morecambe win away from home to pull away from the team managed by the greatest mind in football.

Meanwhile the Maccs earned a point at home after blowing the lead and giving away a penalty.

Boo to Yeovil who lost 3-0 giving the greatest mind hope.
