To be fair, as much as I dislike the bloke, from what I've seen of Macc since he took over they're improved massively so I don't think it is just a new manager bounce. I was at the game against Tranmere on NYD and they started that game in the old way they used to play, just lumping it forward like a lower-leage cliche, but then second half they came out and played some great football and you could tell Campbell had given them a proper game plan during the break and reminded them of what they'd been working on in training etc. In the end they came back from behind to get a well-earned draw that day.

The problem that Macc traditionally have is that they just don't have the money to give players big contracts so you have most of the team on short-term deals. The obvious issue with that is that at the end of the season, all the players who were half-decent just end up leaving on a free to a better club in the division or even step up a league, meaning that the club has to pretty much start from scratch every year or two and hope that a few of the new lads turn out to be decent. The same applies to the manager. When Incey took over he was a revalation, did even more impressive job than Campbell is doing and kept us up, but then was poached by MK Dons, along with a couple of our best players. If Campbell keeps Macc up then the same will happen to him no doubt and it'll be back to square one all over again and the cycle continues.

You live up around Macc?

On 27 November, Sol Campbell took over Macclesfield Town. They were last in 24th.

On 26 December, he led his team to a glorious victory over Notts County to move up to 23rd.

Having struggled for nigh on two and a half months to move his team out of 23rd, it finally happened tonight.

Macclesfield are now back in 24th.

Macclesfield avoid a winding-up order at the High Court

Macclesfield have avoided a winding-up order at the High Court in London.
The League Two strugglers have settled some outstanding debts and agreed terms with another creditor. They have been given more time to settle their remaining bills.

The club have experienced issues regarding the late payment of wages to some players in recent months.

All comes back to what I said in a post a few months ago. It's a vicious cycle whereby they are struggling financially, so can't afford to sign anyone to big long-term contracts, so as soon as anyone comes along and does alright, they get poached by another club at the end of the season either for free or virtually free because they were only on a 1 year contract or whatever, so even when we do manage to sign a decent player, we never get any money back for them so it just goes round and round.

Presumably it doesn't help footing the bill for Campbell either. I don't know what wages he's on but I doubt he comes cheap by Macc's standards. I do know he's not bought a house up here and is staying at this posh country club/golf resort type place the whole time supposedly all being paid for by the club as well if word around town is to be believed.

Well anyway, sounds like they've kept the wolves from the door for the time being but how long that will last is another matter. One of those things where it's a matter of time really I suspect. Would be a real shame to lose the club but at the end of the day I don't really know what you can do about it if it's not sustainable. One suggestion from me that maybe sounds counter-intuitive at first glance would be to cut ticket prices. It's 25 quid for adults (19 standing I think) which alright isn't exactly breaking the bank but it's still pretty expensive to go and watch basically the worst team in the football league. It was only a couple of quid cheaper when they were in the conference as well. There's a couple of times when I've been free on a Saturday and thought I'd fancy going but then when I think about it being basically 50 quid for me + the missus, then inevitably I'd end up going for a couple of pints before the game, so all in it's easily getting on for 60-70 quid a time to basically watch a non-league standard team get thrashed in League 2. I used to go quite a lot when I was a teenager but then it was only a fiver to get in. Now that it's so expensive I just can't afford to go that often to be honest. Putting it in perspective a bit, I've paid similar prices to watch PL games. I went away with Spurs to Wigan and paid 15 quid. Away to places like Stoke and Blackburn used to be 20-25 when they were in the premiership as well, so for Macc to be charging that is a piss take IMO. If they made it a tenner to get in, I guarantee they'd see a massive increase in people going, especially with kids and the like.

Anyway, sorry, I'm rambling on here. Rant over

Just checked how they were doing.

Drawn their last 3 games,

Currently bottom, a point away from second and third from bottom but with a game in hand.

With 6 games to go it's between them, Notts County and Yeovil to who goes down.

Jeepers, just seen this post. 25 sovs ! That's €30+ euro. Madness and unsustainable.

As you say a tenner would seem fair.

I have nothing against Sol what happen happened ... He made his bed. I was brought up not to have hate in my heart so I personally forgave Sol a long time ago.

All I'd say is good luck to Sol in the management game, let's be honest he has a lot of knowledge to pass on.

Roll on the dislikes, Spams, WTF etc

Looks like he might keep Macclesfield up. They're two points above the relegation places with one game to go.

It looks like the club is in a right mess though with players and staff not being paid.

Would be funny if he keeps them up and they get demoted through lack of funds.

I would feel for the club, obviously. Would just fun to see Campbell have a pretty good achievment taken away from him.

He'll probably quit at the end of the season anyway.

No-one's getting paid. I wonder how much his wages are.
I heard that in addition to his basic package, he also requested a bugle playing honour guard to line his route from the Macclesfield training ground car park to his office, as well as a 30 member gospel chorus who sing,

‘Aaaaah, Sol!
He’s the biggest
Aaaaah, Sol!
He’s the greatest
Aaaaah, Sol!’

whenever he started a training session.

Not sure if Sky Andrew managed to wangle that for him though...
