joey55 - interesting post. Keita does look a good player. It seemed to me that Poulsen was always Ramos' deep holding player, and then he'd put a Maresca type alongside him if he wanted to keep it tight. If he wanted to attack a bit more, he'd play Keita or Renato, and give them some freedom to attack. However, in the games I've seen, in no way was Keita playing as a box-to-box player.

So, from the Spurs perspective, I think this means that Ramos will have to teach one of our CMs to play the Poulsen role until he manages to buy a player of that type in the January window. But the likes of Jenas and KPBoateng may be coached to play a new kind of hybrid role - as aggressive, pressing CMs with a licence to get forward on occasion.

It really is make or break time for Jenas - let's hope Ramos can turn him into the player Sven thinks he can be...

Poulsen is the hard man midfielder we need, but Seville will not sell him to us....As for our midfielders who can play that role....Tainio could (if he didn't get unjured after every tackle), Zokora-not sure he's positioning is good enough, Jenas, too light-weight, THudd-too slow and not good positioning again, Boateng-dont now enough about him, Ghaly??? Maybe he could, but think he fell out with Gullit for playing him in that role at feyenoord....So, apart from King or Kaboul doing it, I'd like to see Tainio in there getting stuck in and not really crossing the half-way line.

According to a Spanish radio interview (just posted in a new thread) Ramos has rubbished the reports that he wants to bring Kanoute and Alves to the Lane, and I imagine the same goes for Poulsen.

So we might as well forget about it now.

i watched the sevilla valencia game the other night, whilst poulsen played exceptional, keita was the star of the show. either or look to be exactly what we need.

I think we would be fiscally stupid to chase any Sevilla players. They will try to rake us over the coals. I would imagine that he will have some players he's faced off against that he might want to bring in though.

Seville must have seen us giving £16m to Charlton for Darren Bent!

I think Seville will be the new Chelsea - lots of rumours of their players joining us and in reality none do. I would hope that Wendy is aware of some good players that might have slipped us by as we've focused on England, Holland and France in the last couple of years.

Whoever it was that said we have had no midfield enforcer since Roberts....

WRONG...Edgar Davids was in that role and our problems have multiplied since he wasn't replaced .

OMFG why do people keep suggesting King & Kaboul as midfielders... They are centre backs and thats how they will stay.... Poulsen would be a fairly decent signing too as he would definently add some bite to our midfield

People that say Kaboul could play in dm might be right if you look at another example in the premiership. Kolo Toure at the Woolwich started in cm when he first joined them and eventually became a cb for them after about a season there and is now one of the best cb's in the league. It let him get used to the premiership pace without putting him under that pressure of making a mistake at the back. However, i feel a real dm has to be brought in, Marquez would be my dream choice but would never happen

A spell in central midfield can often be a good training ground for a defender. Afterall King started out there.

I think nostalgia certainly gets in the way when people talk about Davids. Go through our results from his first game to his last. In that time he played just over half the games, and we averaged 0.5 pts per game less when he played than when he didn't. That is a huge difference and he played and missed ab equal amount against the top 4. I think people have forgotten that at the time there were a lot of fans who criticised his performances and to be fair to them results suggest they were totally right (I can't claim to be one.) The other argument was the mentality he bought to the club and the great effect he had behind the scenes. That could well have been true for his first season, but in his second year, by which time he rarely played, the evidence suggests we were better off without him. From the moment he left the club, to the end of the season, i believe we accumalted the 3rd highest points total in the Prem.

Basically I think its the winning attitude he brought to the club and the effect it had in his first 6 months we lack, not his midfield enforcer performances, as results suggest they weren't that valuable.
