I also believe that you will be very happy that we bought KPB for that price, in a couple of seasons.
But i also think that Keita is an extremely useful player and it is strange that not only we, but a lot of teams missed out on him, a real steal for Sevilla.
Still I think the Prince will be better in two seasons or so, because i think he has loads of potential, Sevilla also wanted him ahead of Keita, if i'm not mistaken.

We can't buy every player we spot, and to say that Comolli and his little boy scouts didnt see he was talented is not excatly based on facts. I do wish he was at the Lane, but of the two (Poulsen and Keita) poulsen is the one we need. We do have jenas/KPB/Taarabt/Malbranque who are more like Keita, but at the moment we have none like Poulsen.

Once the result starts improving I reckon we'll see more of both KPB and Taarabt. The latter in particular is not the kind of player you experience with when things are not going your way....

Money?

Anyway, it doesn't look like Sevilla will have CH L football guaranteed for the next seasons. Atletico Madrid and Villareal are getting stronger and Sevilla have lost Juande, an important factor in their success.

yeah the same reason Lucas Neill chose Spam over Liverpool or Parkers choice of Barcoees over us the same with Duff... that reason would re-enforce my suspision of thier footballing ambition.

Not talking about next season. They'll be playing CL football after the january transfer window. Summer dealings are a different kettle of fish.

What's alarming is that we bought BAE from Lens, yet apparently failed to spot Keita. Missing Poulsen is one thing, missing a player in your professed area of expertise quite another. I've no problem whatsoever with Prince Bong, and Sevilla clearly identified him as a player with real potential. I believe that he'll be well worth that £5m in a couple of seasons' time. Nevertheless, we do seem to have missed out on a couple of tricks.

 That's one of the most inane comments you've ever posted SS57.

The truth is we've missed out on any player in any league who once played for a lesser club and then went on to be a super-star. The whole lot of them could have been bought but weren't. To me that's worrying, I mean what do we pay the DoF for??

Oh sloth thats naughty. Because Commoli was not only French and involed in the french league and missed him but also picked up a player from the SAME TEAM as Keita but regisitered no apparant interest. He was at the games scouting but still missed him!!! that's the actual point SS57 was making.

All to eager to show off you amature skills of sarcasum you didn't really read his post. Sloth by name...

What we do know for sure is that Sevilla shortlisted both KPB and Keita, and decided on KPB over Keita. They lost out to us, so had to settle for Keita.

One interesting thing about Keita is that Ramos is very clear about the character of players he wants to sign.

Ramos: "You're never going to get it 100 per cent right but there are ways of maximising your chances: you don't just look at the player on the pitch but everything about him. You can think someone's a good player and then discover that his private life is a mess. So, you watch him play and train, you speak to those close to him."
http://www.worldsoccer.com/interviews/sevilla_coach_juande_ramos_interview_107105.html

Now, there are some quotes on SkySports today, where Keita talks of his time at Lens, and sez:

"I lost my hunger when I was at Lens. I was the star of Mali when I was very young and that put a lot pressure on me.Mali were looking for the next Salif Keita (considered the best Malian player of all time and current Mali FA president) and I could not cope with the pressure. However with the emergence of Diarra, Kanoute, Sissoko - that has helped me a lot as the pressure is shared amongst us all and I am proud to see them all excelling in different leagues - they are my brothers."

Now, I would think it's highly likely that Monchi (Sevilla DoF) and Ramos spoke to Fredi Kanoute about his Mali teammate Keita, and that that formed part of their decision to target him. In other words, that they judged he probably was ready to get his career back on the road. And, like Joey, whenever I've seen him play for Sevilla this season I gnash my teeth and think: wtf didn't we sign this guy?

I think character is the key for us at the moment. We need a player with a big personality and plenty of confidence and determination. I would say Keane has this but playing up front he does not have too much influence during a match, particularly in defence. I would also say KPB has this but obviously lacks experience. The rest of the team though seem to me as if they are quite shy and quiet, which comes hand in hand with lack of confidence.

Someone to scream down the players necks on the pitch but who will also help the players believe in themselves. Anyone know any decent footballers with a Psycology degree?

You miss the point entirely. We've signed two players from Lens: BAE, who has so far failed signally to live up to the billing (quite apart from the fact that he's been more or less permanently injured), and Taarabt, currently endearing himself to reserve-watchers with his show-pony antics. It's not unreasonable to assume, then, that Comolli knows the club and its players very well indeed. Nevertheless, he apparently (I'd better emphasise that this time, hadn't I?) contrived to overlook a classy, highly experienced midfielder who would have been of far more immediate use to us than the two of them put together.

Of course, he may not have overlooked him at all. Who'd want Keita when Zokora was available?

Well, I didn't want to name names, but Martin Jol might have. He was as much involved in the transfer proceedings as Comolli and Levy.

Y'know what? I REALLY like Kaboul's attitude.

It's obvious he's desperate to win the fans over and I think the kid's got some serious talent.

It's a shame he's been thrown to the lions in a way, but I think he'll be stronger for it.

Can't wait to see him play next to King.

I kind of agree with this. He has the talent and the physical abilities to be a great defender. And I believe Ramos and his coaching team are good enough teachers to show him the way.

That's another 524 posts generated from the most miniscule amount of ITK I've ever seen. Love this part of the season (apart from the fact we are a couple of points from the drop zone).

Are we sure it's Poulsen or is this a guess cos Ramos coached him at Seville?

Weren't we linked to the Beast again?
