Some players are just better as a plan B. Solskjær would be the prime example, and what he did in 1999 has him down as both Plan B and legend in Utd folklore. Several other good examples though, Kuyt, Giroud, Chicharito, all have excelled at the highest level as plan B but weren’t good enough to be a plan A.

The question for Son is, would he rather be first reserve for a club going places, or drop down to an Everton, West Ham, Liverpool, Southampton to be first choice.

Of course it's opinions...

He is good enough to be plan A.

Horses for courses. There are always certain teams he is simply better suited against, one's where he can exploit space at the back (see Dortmund), whereas against deep lying teams (see Crystal Palace) he tends to be poor when he starts because his game is often too direct and the space is not there.

This old notion that if you are good enough you should be a first 11 every match is outdated. Sure, in certain positions like GK, CD, Striker you often see main men, but elsewhere across the pitch you nee to be flexible/rotational.

So I disagree with the article. Son is not a Plan B, he is an alternative Plan A, just like most of the rest of the team when all fit.
