I'm pretty sure that military service is required to be completed before turning 31, not 28 but military service usually lasts 24 months not 21 so he realistically has to begin at 28 not 26. I think could in theory avoid the draft until he is 33 and essentially use his wealth to pay of any fines etc, but not sure that would go down well.

His best shot of not doing military service would be to play in the asian games at the end of this season and win gold. Technically possible as it happens after the world cup, but being a world cup year unlikely he will do both.

Or getting a medal in the Olympics in 2020, granting him exemption just in time.

All of this would of been avoided if Bayer Leverkusen wern't so selfish as to not let him go to the Asian games back in 2014, South Korea won that tournament and all their players are now exempt.. Apart from Son..

The problem is korean national team is not the best asian team atm. They have been regressed a bit. Although they qualify for the world cup 18, i think iran and japan are slightly better than korea, and australia and saudi are on the same level as korea.

I dont understand the slatings he gets.
Does he have good games and bad games? Yes. But who doesn't?
I wouldn't say he 'blows hot and cold' more than Alli or Eriksen.
What he does do EVERY game is give 100% and scares the living shit out of defenders.
And like Alli and Eriksen he can be having an off game (like Palace) while still being the proverbial pain in the ass of the opposition when suddenly bang... he scores.
I love him.

Such is the flexibility in our squad and the various systems we play, I don’t think he is a Plan B at all. I think Poch has developed a squad where we have 15 or 16 players who could be chosen on any given day - Son is very much part of that. Sure we could all name our preferred 11, but Poch has surprised us virtually every game this season with his picks.

I can see him being exempt in the next couple of years as he's arguably South Korea's best player at the moment and with him performing well for a club who's making big statements both in their domestic league and Europe Son will be classed as one of South Korea's success stories and likely given an exemption.

I doubt it. No major celebrities have ever been given exemption. Don't think Son will, unless he gets a medal.

top player for us but the mindset for those outside the club (and some of our fans tbf) needs to change. We have an expanding core group that is interchangeable and Son is part of that.

Eriksen has been one of our most consistent players since early last season so kinda wrong to include h8m as someone wh9 blows hot and cold.

He used to but found a good level of consistency last season.

kind of silly premise if you ask me. Is there a equal or better club where Son would be automatic? I doubt it.

Alli isn't interchangeable, he's undroppable. This is the whole premis of those who think he deserves more game time. If Alli were treated the same, this thread wouldn't exist.

I don't recall that formation ever being played as a starting 11. It's cool you obviously disagree with the Notion that Son gets put in the shade whilst Alli is always in the sun. I disagree that we have a 'fair' interchangeable 15. Alli gets preference even when he's playing poorly. Son had as close to Alli's numbers as you can get last season, and yet is always the first to be dropped. That what I see.

I think dropping Alli back to midfield like...

.......Son....Kane....

Alli.......Dier......Eriksen

Would be the fair solution, however Alli may consistently outshine Son in training which maybe the reason. But in matchday performances, I believe Son deserves more.

Yep you could play a 3-5-2 with Dele alongside Eriksen and Dier / Wanyama. Winks is also a good option there so Dier can play at back or he could play with a specialised holding midfielder in there.

I’m pretty sure first time we played 3 at back Dele actually was more in midfield as Dembele was available and Son / Kane we’re up top.

Yeh I believe your right. Wether it started that way or evolutionised through game play there was also a period of Alli and Dembele interchanging I seem to recall, maybe through fluidity or concise tactical methodology.

I’ll have to check back as wanted to see which game it was but I do then remember Dembele came in next game for Son and Dele got pushed up as a twosome behind Kane making it a 3-4-2-1, which I hadn’t really seen before as Chelsea’s was more of a 3-4-3 I thought at time.

Ah I actually thought you were referring to the season before where Dier was in midfield but splitting the centre backs to make the 3, but more of a 4231 starting line up.

Could winning the Premier League / Champions League exempt him from military service? He has international fame after-all.

Some players are just better as a plan B. Solskjær would be the prime example, and what he did in 1999 has him down as both Plan B and legend in Utd folklore. Several other good examples though, Kuyt, Giroud, Chicharito, all have excelled at the highest level as plan B but weren’t good enough to be a plan A.

The question for Son is, would he rather be first reserve for a club going places, or drop down to an Everton, West Ham, Liverpool, Southampton to be first choice.
