Son Heung-min has revealed that he "struggled with pain all season" which eventually led to him getting surgery on a sports hernia injury after Tottenham's final match of the campaign.

Source: Football London

“I wondered a lot if I should even make this public, but I struggled with pain all season. I played through it for eight to nine months, but couldn’t go on anymore, so I made the decision finally and underwent surgery.”

“Even for simple actions like passing or turning, every movement starts from your core muscles, but that’s exactly where my pain was. I was only able to do 60 per cent of what could do at 100 per cent [throughout the season].”

So that's both him and Dier who have been playing through injuries?
That really shouldn't be happening and either the medical staff or the players need to say "no, rest and recovery is now needed".

It's just detrimental to the squad to have players operating at 60% and does nobody any favours.

It's just stupidity.

Wow. Literally anyone but Richy it seems. Even a herniated Sonny. Great signing that was.

World-Cup year, chasing CL etc etc
I think its common in professional sport (to put off seemingly 'bearable' injury).

Yeah but at what point do you say “lads I am shit - play someone else and let me go and get surgery”. He’s been crap this season and if he’s been playing with pain then there was never any chance he was going to play his way back into form like we were all hoping. Really frustrating to read tbh.

I just find this baffling is it in his contract that even if injured he has to play? I've felt some players who need dropping from our team it just doesn't happen with. No matter what form they are seems like they have a place, Lloris was another before injury hit.

This is where I hope Ange is different to the rest because until that happens will end up as we are. The ones who have gone before him certainly didn't upset the apple cart and that badly needs shaking to get rid of the rotten ones at the moment. I also don't include Son as a rotten one at all. Just give someone who is 100% fit a chance to give their all rather than running with someone at only 50/60% crazy!

Sometimes it's not up to the player. In the Amazon documentary, we saw Mourinho insisting that Son play even as the medical team clearly articulated the player had a injury. We fans are too quick to judge even as we don't the internal club dynamics and the politics. In 2018-19, fans were calling for Trippier to be off-loaded as he was very inconsistent. He was in fact carrying an injury. Look how well he has been doing since leaving us.

He still noticeably improved under Mason when hd played off the shoulder of the last defender, as opposed to constantly receiving the ball with his back to the ball in congested areas.

Hopefully, post surgery, plus more positive tactics, we see him back to his best. I think injury did play a part, but the tactics did not help Son play at his best.

I get that but going by both of their form during this season, it was detrimental to the team. They shouldn't have been playing unless they were properly fit imo.
It's not like we didn't have alternatives, although maybe less for Dier than Son.
