I do t think he is as good as was said anyway, seemed not to do his basic job a lot of the time, protecting the centre backs.

According to Sky...

It's getting bettteeerrrr!
I still think they will be much better than they have been before if they let Bould coach that defence in the old george graham style, if they manage to do so they will be in the title hunt imo if the strikers perform

Was a very good all round midfielder for Arsenal and will be hard to replace but you'd have to think M'Villa will be brought in in the not so distant future.

It's still upheaval Arsenal don't need - especially after the RVP saga so this nullifies somewhat the positive signings made thus far and makes Arsenal vulnerable of dropping outside the top 4.

Good all round midfielder, but lacking in tactical discipline. Has to be seen as a loss in the short term, even if they get in someone who will be better in the long term

Looking at the Carzola transfer now it looks like Wenger and Arsenal were trying to soften the blow before they sold their two best players for the second consecutive season. What's really funny is that the way Wenger was speaking earlier today I don't think he wants to bring anyone else in either.

Let's hope that this year his increasingly bizarre transfer policy will see us finally finish above them.

He had a very good point they have a shit load of central midfielders and he was talking about the Oxlade-chamberlain being a potential CM in the future

I guess It's true that they have a lot (at any rate more than us) of good CM's but a fair few of them are of dubious quality and fitness. Ramsey isn't top 4 material and Diaby is a perma crock. Rosicky was excellent last year but he's getting on and is always liable to miss a fat chunk of the season through injury. The Ox is impressive for a youngster but it remains to be seen whether he can convert his potential into real first team quality.

If they replace him with M'Vila, Biglia or someone like that then it may prove a sensible bit of business and result in a better balanced team overall. For all of Song's qualities his lack of discipline in shielding Arsenal's defence last season was one of their major flaws. You can indulge him that freedom by playing him alongside a DM, but then I think Arteta is far too crucial a player for them to drop. That's not to mention Wilshere should he ever return or the potentially incoming Sahin.

It's a sale that makes some sense to me should they get the right replacement. With a bit of luck though Wenger will just use Diaby instead :)

I doubt it. We've lost our best player and midfielder, our best defender and our best forward.

It's us who seem to have a bizarre policy.

Our best defender wasn't our best defender for the last season or 2 due to crippling injuries, plus his loss is nothing to do with a transfer policy as he retired and wasn't sold or let go.

Our best forward wasn't our forward he was on loan and we appear to have done our best to sign him permanently with even City implying the fault lies with Adebayor's ridiculous demands of both clubs, however the fact remains he's never been more than a loan player to us so it has nothing to do with our transfer policy.

Modric is our best midfielder, key word there is 'is', last time I looked he hadn't yet been sold? If he eventually is which is likely he didn't really leave the club much choice as for the second summer running he has behaved in an insulting manner towards both the club and the fans! It is also arguable whether he is our best player, many would point to that being Gareth Bale and some to it being VDV. One of which has just penned a new contract and one who was signed for a snip within our bizarre transfer policy.

Our policy is far from bizarre, it's a policy that is required at a club that is run properly and without a bottomless pit sugardaddie!

To be honest I'd rather they kept him if they are indeed going to look to replace him. He's been a fairly good player for them but even Arsenal fans get annoyed with his sloppiness in passes in particular at times, he seems to make people forget with those lofted through balls he plays to Van Persie.

Not that many Gooners to sad to see him go. They follow him every week, and lot thinks he just isnt capable of doing his defensive duties as well as one could expect from a DM.
Sure he assist a lot of goals etch, but he is there to break up the opponents game, not as a second Arteta.

If they get in a player like M'vila to replace him i would say they have traded up.

Our policy is more bizarre. We sold players and replaced them with a loanee, now we're sat stumped as to why we only have a player who doesn't thrive in the manager's formation and an unproven 19 year old.

Modric hasn't gone, but he's not available is he? He's due to seal his move away. Just like Song I hear...

My post was in response to Arsenal's bizarre policy, in reality they have signed some good players to replace those they have been forced to let go. How is that more bizarre than having a midfielder who refuses to play or putting all of your eggs in one basket with a loanee?

I am well aware of the restrictions a club like Spurs face, but in reality, is the situation at Arsenal any different?

90% of the forum could've told you the chance of landing Adebayor smoothly would be slim to none, so why sell every other bleedin striker?

I think we should forget about Arsenal and worry about ourselves, Arsenal always manage to land on their feet even though their demise is always predicted and they have a manager for the long term who is doing a good job. [splutter]

Now pass me the soap so I can wash my mouth out.

I almost choked on my drink when I heard he was going to Barca for £18m.

Is he really that good? I always thought he was a bit shit.

He was very good last season. I think it helped having someone with RVP's intelligence playing in front of him though. Arsenal have done unbelievably well to get in excess of £40m for the pair.

Very good player but I don't think he's good enough for Barca.

He'll probably play CB and is better suited to it than Mascherano (although he has adapted very well to that role).
