So we eventually just managed to keep 'em behind, pointwise we dropped from last season and they improved.
Or.
We kept them behind us despite them having players much better suited to playing that style of football and more intelligence throughout the team.

Well done Poch. With a few more intelligent players in key areas we'll be a joy to watch next season...

The core of which was designed by poch and, rightly, acknowledged by Koeman.

And I thought they lost a huge chunk of key players from last season (and on top of it some here told their success last season was all down to Poch) and their new coach managed to settle new ones rather quickly.

I am starting to doubt whether pochettino was ever a Southampton manager. Adkins got credit for his season and now Koeman has made them better than under Pochettino. It appears he was just an inconsequential bridge between two great managers' teams...

Well, they were ripped out of their key players (big chunk of those Adkins era via Academy or elsewhere while Poch had his part on development). To put it in numbers, they lost over dozen players from last season (via transfers and J.Rod who didn't feature due injury), that is close to 300 PL apps from last season and over 30 goals. So while Koeman might have been polite towards Poch, can't see there being too much of Poch on their great season.

Well with that glowing reference I'll be surprised if we finish above the saints next year...

Although I'm pretty sure Poch trained the whole squad not just six players?

Well, they lost lot more than six (elsewhere it wouldn't be over 290 PL apps).

Really??

Koeman:
I think the structure and organisation in the team, the spirit of the players starts under Mauricio.

I took that over and maybe we were different in some details. From what I heard, maybe I try to do more training sessions with the ball and maybe he was a little bit more physical.

I think the start, for the development of the team, was under Mauricio and he did a great job last season.

It's goof compliment to give credit to predecessor when you've improved over his tally ie. you built on that. Shame Poch doesn't have same position as point tally dropped from last season.

Come on TT read between the lines. Look at my previous posts...

Was a playful jab at the poch deniers
Ah shit, sorry man, so many shit-heels on here now with an agenda...I just saw your post and thought it would be a good oppo. to post that Koeman article.

Still is really, been itching to do it. :D

Denying what? That pointwise it was worst season since Ramos days par that season when we actually had CL as "distraction" and even then we got mere 2 points less and were closer to 4th. We leaked as much as relegated Burnley and more than relegated Hull, well there is no denying that. Poch did just enough to win himself a 2nd season, but reckon forks will be out if there is no improvement come next may.

5th > 6th.

As compared to last season, reckon it had more to do with how we improved (despite getting chunk less points) or how Liverpool and Everton failed miserably?

5th > 6th.

Agreed.

I don't think many people would argue AVB's first season was better than finishing 4th, despite the points tally.

Scoring 3 goals in a match is better than scoring once, but winning 1-0 is better than drawing 3-3. Primarily it's the position in the table that counts, not the number of points you amass.

Then again we were told all at Soton last season was down to Poch and we had season where we fired one manager at halfway through the season and had according some, worst manager on planet on helm for the rest. And we dropped points from that? And managed to let in more goals despite hammerings of last season? So while decline of Everton and Liverpool helped us climb a position and Poch did enough to win another season, it's not much of an achievement, is it?

So AVB was better than Sherwood? So if we had come 2nd but less points, that wouldn't be improvement nor better than previous year?

We finished higher in 5th position, not 6th like the previous year.
