I dislike him already. He knows nothing about running a club the size of tottenham, yet insists on clearing out all/majority of our senior coaches without even meeting them, to make way for his mates.
It is total arrogance. I would have thought Ramsey, Freund and Parks have enough credibility with the fans to warrant further time. Of course Levy may well have had enough of them all anyway, but this team had us operating at a top 6 level for a couple of years plus good runs in europa, with a multi international squad so they cannot all be rubbish.
The same accusation can be thrown at AVB who sacked the whole team that was getting top 4 finishes - were they all rubbish?
Equally it was wrong to throw Poyet out.
We need continuity and the manager should manager the resources he is given - and assess them and keep the staff that are working well.
Staff being routinely flushed away every few years is part of our pattern of failure imo.

So you dislike him on the basis of a newspaper article that says ''Pochettino would make it clear that he expects his Spanish....''.
Ah, that must be because thats what Pochettino told the Standard reporter.

As we seem to be getting the next big thing in all the time (players and managers) why hasn't anyone sounded out Malky Mackay. Probably the next Rodgers if he had the chance and cheap, which it appears we like.

If he ends up being as good/better than Martinez, Id be gutted if we missed out on another oppurtunity. This is as best a gamble than we have previousley made in my opinion. Still a gamble though. Fact is only one manager of one team has been truly successful in the past 20 years throughout the premier league teams. Therefore you could say every chairman of every team has made the wrong choice throughout those years. At least we dont wait nine years to see that! ;)

Are u kidding me, so you expect him to leave his team of coaches that has brought success to his previous club. These are the coaches he works with everyday to relate his ideas to the players, people he trust to ensure no stone left unturned, people he confine in when things are not going according to plan.

this is football and not a desk job. Someone mentioned AVB, at least he can't argue his backroom staff weren't relaying his ideas across to the players.

Who ever takes over we need too make it fast before the World Cup. Get the right man in and buy and sell before preseason starts. Get a group of players playing a formation that they like and start the season with a bang. Maybe buy 1 or 2 players before deadline day.

The coach/manager that would get us organised right away and go with the squad available is Rafa Benitez. Of the names being discussed Rafa is the one who could come in and set the tone a la Van Gaal, but would fans accept him?

This. We seem to be in the market for up and coming managers, no one has the foresight to know which of them will do well. I recall Martinez being linked with us before we appointed avb and the consensus here was he was a relegation specialist. How wrong we were. Who, except those who get to meet them, knows which of these has the most potential and who can fit with our philosophy of playing and current crop of players.

Let's face it, It's a really tough job.

Poch has got 3-4 quality players and an average squad performing well and winning the second league. That's quite impressive. His inconsistent results are not surprising in this league.

Fdb has his history of playing and is breaking records in holland. Also impressive.

Who will adapt best to this job? Toss a coin.

Perhaps the one with a clear vision, who best fits our philosophy and who has the character to lead a team full of potential. With the last point being crucial. There's not much between the top teams, the difference can often be the manager who gets his players believing they can win (see the ferguson affect of last season!)

My view is I don't know enough about fdb and Ajax but I have been impressed with how s'ton attack as a team. Lots of movement and positional understanding between their players. something we very clearly lacked last season.

The one manager who fit our profile, who fit our philosophy, who had a vision and who the fans wanted was Glenn Hoddle. He might have been the right manager at the wrong time. His appointment shows that there is no guarantee of success. It is not an exact science.

There are not many managers in the game today who would move to a club and not be demand to appoint their own staff. The only way a manager will do that is if there is clear evidence that specific coaches will not seek to undermine their authority or if they can help in the dressing room or around the club. That might be one coach, not 4-5.

The exceptions are those coaches/managers who have enjoyed success and can deal with a backroom revolt - Van Gaal, Mourinho, Wenger, Ancelotti, Guardiola, etc. Winners. They don't suffer fools. The likes of Pochettino, Martinez and Rodgers are not there yet, so surround themselves with their trusted staff. Nothing wrong with that. I would in their shoes.

The manager needs to be assured that the staff are loyal and look after his best interests. It should also be the club's best interests, but modern football does not work that way. Van Gaal has already appointed a couple of coaches behind the scenes who he has worked with in various capacities with Holland. Harry Redknapp has his staff he likes to bring with him. Did Brendan Rodgers leave the Liverpool staff intact?

Whoever we appoint will want his own staff and if that means letting staff go then so be it. I would like one coach to remain, one with a Tottenham background, but it is up to the new man to decide. I am not sure we have a potential future manager at the club who can be groomed the way Man United hope Van Gaal does with Ryan Giggs.

Agree totally. I still have a lot of time for him as a coach and we played some nice football under hoddle but as a manager he fell a bit short. He didn't do that well in the transfer market but then again we were a long way away from the top teams back then. It's funny, when you look back at that period you realise just how far we have come, especially with our transfer dealings.

Can the disagree-ers at least say on what basis they disagree?

The count is now at 9 managers. If they weren't good enough for the job then the person employing them is not adequate

I disagree because I've just watched a video of Spurs against Ipswich pre Levy. He deserves a lot of credit but peons just give him shit because he holds managers to account for their failures.

I suppose you blame Levy for not letting the club be held to ransom by Archway sheet metal too

You're right LRF. We really have come a long way. As a Washington native, I was thrilled when Hoddle brought the club to DC for a pre-season friendly in 2003. I was a little less thrilled for my friends to celebrate DC United beating Spurs.

And lest you all say anything about the strength of squads, this was the team we started: Kasey Keller, Goran Bunjevcevic, Stephen Carr, Chris Perry, Kazuyuki Toda, Christian Ziege, Milenko Acimovic, Ledley King, Jamie Redknapp, Robert Keane, Teddy Sheringham.

Last couple years haven't been all that we hoped for, but I remember back to those days when our hopes were to avoid a relegation battle. We felt relieved when we crossed the forty point threshold, and longed for the day we would qualify for the UEFA Cup. Even holding out the hope that we would get in as the FIFA Fair Play team.

We'll always have frustration as Spurs supporters. I just like this kind of frustration more than what we faced over a decade ago.

I didn't neg rep but I disagree.

The reason we've had 9 managers is there is a lot of mediocrity in football management but you only find that out when they get challenged beyond their ability. I believed in Santini, jol, Ramos, redknapp, and avb before they were appointed but this club was beyond their skills. Would you have any of them back? A few would ask for redknapp but seriously, he was nowhere near a ferguson.

Do you know who the next ferguson is? I don't, levy is trying to find him but until he does, I'd rather we change manager again than stick with an obvious failure.

Not excited about this. Seems like a sideways step to me, from both Sherwood and AVB. Seems like a decent bloke but doesn't come with much of a CV.

Just seen the price on former Chelsea boss (tinker man) Ranieri being priced down by the bookies.
I have a feeling the Tino and FDB may be out of the running otherwise they would have been approached by now and Levy is coming up with what he thinks will be the safer option - me not so sure...

For me of the two FDB has proven he knows how to win things, and not just once. Poch has never finished higher than mid table at any of his previous clubs.

On top of this I believe FDB, with his brother, would want to oversee the teams at all levels of the club and getting them all playing in a similar fashion ala Barcelona. I like the sound of that as it breeds consistency throughout the club and makes it easier for young players to step up through the levels of the club.

I don't get the feeling this is something Poch would do. He got lucky with the quality of the Southampton academy, which was already there before he was, I'm not convinced he would replicate that at Tottenham.

I've just spent a couple of days talking football with my Dutch work colleagues, and they are unanimous in thinking that FdB is ambitious and looking to prove he can move on from 4 successful but comfortable years at Ajax. They really did make it sound like he's the candidate with most to offer us, if he can be tempted over.

Funny that. I was speaking to my Argentinan work colleagues and they said exactly the same about Poch.
