Really? Late important goal that ties or puts you ahead in a match. It's a really common term in America. As in - Clutch basket. Always comes through in the clutch. Etc.
Right, so only in America then?
Probably why I haven't heard it before.

Clutch is normally a game winning basket or touch down or big moment from one of your go to players, For comparison's sake Kane would be a clutch player in our team as he has a winning mentality and the player that everyone looks to for that moment of magic, wouldn't say that for Son, I'd say 'clutch' players are pretty unique and few and far between in this league

Not going to bother reading the whole match thread but really looked labored yesterday with our passing. It was too slow to be released, lacked the right pace for the pass (for instance Vert has got to start putting more on the passes across the back as they were so slow yesterday the Southhampton players could have walked to get in shape), or was played on the wrong side of our player to allow him to keep the play moving.

By the time our players received a pass they were already under pressure. It was better when Wanyama came on but Dembele, Dier, Sanchez were all very poor. It just showed the importance of Eriksen in this side.

Good player management to keep Sanchez on, although thought he may have pushed Dier back and brought lamela on earlier, but think that would have completely destroyed his confidence, and he picked up toward the end with a couple of good tackles

So why "clutch"? Whats the correlation between "last minute" and the thing that connects your car's drive shaft?

Yeah if it doesn't rally translate well to football because backetball and American football frequently has more moments and the rate of scoring is higher than football therefore players would find basketballers, American footballers etc..themselves in more clutch situations...If you're looking for the ultimate clutch player though throughout the years in football it has to be someone like Dider Drogba.

Clutch is quite a common term in tennis too. When a player wins a big point or whatever, it can be referred to as clutch tennis.

Could people stop referring to Barcelona as a warm weather training camp? It’s far from warm in January.
