Gareth Southgate showed he has no time for sentiment when he dumped World Cup semi-final hero Kieran Trippier from his Nations League squad.

A shame for both players. Sadly Winks injured at the wrong time, and Trips has struggled with his form all season. Walker is the RB for now, and Alexander-Arnold does have the edge over Trips for now at least.

Let's hope Trippier is inspired to have a blinder on Saturday to try to show Southgate he was wrong to drop him.

Agreed - but at the same time have to respect Southgate for taking well informed tough managerial decisions. The dude has balls.

Wish he'd drop all our players for games that occur when they should be on a holiday. Its a fucking joke.

Maybe this will inspire Trippier to give it some serious beans in the final and outshine TAA. That’s the only way to get back into form. And the England squad.

These 2 games could result in England lifting only their 2nd ever major trophy. Why wouldn't you want our lads involved?

Cos I'm Irish for a start... Hahaha but seriously I would prefer they had a prolonged period to recharge. Anyone who hasn't had a break anyway.

Heart aside, this was the correct decision. Kane is an exception when it comes to injured players etc. but Winks not yet.

Trippier has been terrible and southgate wants to win the Nations League.
