Sometimes a supporters group gets what they deserve. This is one of those cases.
A supporters group? You had a rogue bunch of nutters physically assaulting players. That's all! Who gives a toss about what that bunch of twats deserve?

This had nothing to do with the overwheming majority of the Sporting Lisbon fan base, who did nothing to deserve this outcome. There's obviously some serious shit going on at that club, and their president, de Carvalho, has his hands deep in it; including, directly or indirectly, instigating the actual attack on their own players.

This kind of crap could happen to any club given particular conditions. I don't blame the players one bit for jumping ship. But, I'd be royally pissed if I were a regular Sporting fan.

9 gone now

Rui Patrício
Daniel Podence
William Carvalho
Gelson Martins
Bruno Fernandes
Bas Dost
Rúben Ribeiro
Rodrigo Battaglia
Rafael Leão

Has anyone actually "gone" though? I know they're looking into ways to get out of their contracts etc. but I haven't seen anything to say anyone has actually managed to leave/terminate their contract yet. Have I missed something?

Any court decision I assume will be a long time coming and the Transfer Window will be closed. Presumably though if the players are successful in the court they will be unattached so could still be available for Transfer despite the Window closing ?
Yes, if they're unattached they can be signed whenever, but if it happens after the window closes there might be a problem with the 25 man PL squad submission list. If we were to sign any of them, for starters we'd need to have a free space in the squad and even then I don't know if you're allowed to retroactively add players after the initial list has been submitted.

Unless there's provision for a quick decision application, given the unique circumstances?

Any Portugal legal experts on the site? :)

After Wolves announced him, Sporting said:

"The board of directors considers the contractual terminations presented by the players to be illegal, due to the lack of a fair cause, so it will seek to hold those players and the clubs with which they sign a contract of employment for the damages and losses suffered, with the expectation of being accordingly duly reimbursed."

This should be fun as it all plays out in the courts.

That's us out of it then. Levy won't go for that at all.

Buy out maybe, not terminate.
Buy out clauses are only legally binding in the fa juristriction signed ( however Iberia Spain/Portugal have agreement so it's binding)..
Best way to look at it..
Buy out clause..if fee is met from another club in lg, player can move if he wants..
Release clause.. if fee is met player can talk to other clubs..club do not have to accept that bid & sell
Termination Clause.. player can have written into his contract a fixed fee to cancel contract (mired with tax complications) or player can buy out worth of contract if legal grounds for termination are agreed by both parties..if not a court decides..

People thinking these players are free to Jon another club are wide of the mark..

Yep, I'm just thinking of another way that they could force a move if the termination due to breach of contract doesn't work.

There must be something written into the contract saying it can be terminated in certain conditions though? Or is this just covered in their legal rights?

Does anyone know what evidence there is linking the chairman with the attacks?

An unsafe working environment where someone could be seriously injured or killed is grounds for termination I would have thought. An employer has a duty of care to their workforce.

Hires a couple of security guards. A company can't be held to account for outsiders breaking the law can they? As long as they show they have reasonably tried to stop it from happening again there wouldn't be grounds to tear up a contract.

Lawyers are going to have fun.
