The score glossed over another insanely boring 70 minutes of football where;
A) We again didn't have a shot on target
B) We fully deserved to be behind.

Looked somewhat better with more attack minded players on the pitch but it still took a bale-esq wonder strike and a bit of fortune that soldado was in the way of Townsends 472nd wayward shot of the match.

Lets hope this was a turning point, Poch's substitutions changed the game, both strikers who played scored. We showed grit to fight back to win. And Mason scored a worldy, so many positives despite the poor earlier parts of the game.

Lets hope the players don't go back to overconfidence in the next match. We seem to swing between lacking confidence and over confidence. We need a happy medium.

Once Mason and Kane came on our play improved immensely. Soldado came alive for the final 20 mins with someone up top to partner him. Lamela was positive and direct. Lenny worked hard defensively but was shite going forward and Townsend was direct but wasteful.

Bentalab put a shift in but lost the ball in dangerous areas to often and Pauli was mehhhhh (something is not right with him).

Play anything like this on Saturday and the Arse will be out of sight before halftime.

The problem is, I don't think Poch will change it. He'll start again with 4231, with 2 defenders effectively occupying the 2. The striker will be isolated.
The best we can hope for playing like that is to not concede many.

On the other hand, if we sacrifice the defensive qualities of one of those "2" then we open ourselves up to be slaughtered.
Then again, the additional attacking threat may push them back.

My brain hurts.

What's this I kept hearing on the Sky commentary regarding Mason not be legible for Premier League games.

When checking out the Squad list for the Premier League he was on there.

It would be a shame for the young man if he couldn't continue from this impressive performance.

It was nice to see four academy players on the pitch yesterday and for them to all contribute.

Regarding the team it's so obvious what we lack in an attacking point of view.

We need a forward thinking deep lying midfielder in the the mould of Modric.

I would like to see Eriksen playing slightly deeper or give Mason a chance.

Dembele just doesn't have the mental capacity to play there, he slows the game down too much and having two similar defensive midfielders in that position just doesn't work, too many passes go back or to the side. They make Vinny Samways look adventurous.

The team that I would start with against Arsenal would be

Lloris, Naughton, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Rose, Capoue, Eriksen, Lamela, Soldado, Adebayor and Chadli.

That was dire last night and I actually told my missus I wanted Forest to score so that we didnt scrape a win and paper over the cracks. After they scored and we made the substitutions we vastly improved. In my opinion Bentelab was our worst player, maybe its due to not playing but he just constantly gave the ball to the opposition. After Sunday someone was calling for Ben Davies to be playing over Rose, and I just wonder if some people want their team selections on reputation rather than form. But I fail to see anyone to praise from last night plus the jury is certainly still out on our new centre half.

I think Townsend was far worse than Bentaleb.

Don't think those cracks can be papered over. The good thing is our shit mentality and player mediocrity is being revealed to poch. And Mason came on and showed our multi million 'stars' up.

Hopefully we thin the squad out in Jan (paul, townsend, lennon, chiri), bring in yedlin and bring through some youngsters and save that money gained from the sales to give poch enough to get the 2/3 top players that he needs next summer.

Free kick that deserved a goal, shot and assist for Soldado's goal (wasnt he on target?) and though when he shoots and is way off its soooo frustrating, at least we get SOME goal atempts whereas we arent getting any with anyone else. I may have missed anything Benteleb did well as I was so bored with the whole thing.

The free kick looked great for sure. Still, didn't score so meaningless really. (Yes I'm being harsh)
His 'assist' was another long range off target shot. Which he did far too often through out the game. I think the only intelligent thing he did was dummy someone in their box, then his subsequent use of the ball was pathetic.

I'm no Bentaleb fan, but I reckon he at least made a few decent tackles/interceptions
They're more useful than running in to dead ends and kicking the ball out of play.

Though still valuable that's easier to me than having to be creative , still I cant recall those tackles and interceptions.

I can help explain your symptom with the following analogy. If one doesn't use a muscle much and then tries to exercise more than usual, it can result in pain.

A lot of players use that searching gesture with their hands when coming forward with the ball. This means that some of our players are either hiding or don't have the cohesion as a team to take up positions. Bentaleb did go looking for the ball, but he didn't have any idea about what was going on ahead of him and so kept taking the safe option. Mason came on and started passing forward, which meant that our forwards suddenly had a reason to move more. Ray Houghton commented a few weeks ago that last season he noticed that Soldado was taking up clever positions, but no one was picking it up. I think that he, Lamela and Kane have a good partnership. Dembele has no confidence in his own abilities and doesn't dare to do, otherwise he would have tried more long range shots. Adebayor got malaria, missed pre-season, has had a trip to Togo, and looks not to be fully match-fit.
