"An agreement has been reached for the Premier League club to host its European fixtures at Wembley for the 2016-17 season with an option to hire the stadium for the entire 2017-18 campaign."

Well glad that's sorted. Shame we won't play CL at WHL next season but the new stadium takes priority.

This is what many of us hoped for - not so much next year's CL matches, but the whole 2017/18 season. It's also what some of us expected.

My problem is that I've got a good memory. I remember nearly all of the brash, bitter posts, announcing with absolute certainty that we would definitely, undoubtedly be playing in Milton Keynes, usually attributing this to it being less expensive. The same people also posted, in similarly absolute and angry terms, that the club's fan consultation survey was a sham that would be ignored, again for the cheaper option.

Many of them probably forget they wrote that crap. Over and over, troll-style, every bloody day, on every thread, for months. But I don't forget that stuff. I guess that makes me bitter and twisted, too ;).

Whenever there's something good that might happen to our club, we get the same characters flooding the forum, spraying their bile over everyone. Remember Cornelius Knob, late of this parish, who arrogantly instructed us every day that "the stadium will never be built" and that "ENIC will sell the club rather than spend any money on a new stadium"?

Next time just ban the fuckers ;).

I am glad that this matter is finally settled. Common sense has prevailed. Hopefully more fans will see the team play live ( some for the first time) with the increased capacity and maybe this will allow the game ticket pricing to be reasonable. Travel for a lot of the fans will be easier as Wembley is more acceptable than WHL. Fingers crossed that we take the home games option for league and cup games the following season.
I just hope the team perform well and do not mentally consider ever game at Wembley an away fixture!

Has there been any confirmation what the capacity will be at Wembley, next year for the CL games and the full season after?I have conflicting reports that it may be limited to 50,000

There's a detailed discussion about this on the "New Stadium" thread.

The planning consent for the construction of Wembley stadium limits "major events" to about 30-40 per year and defines a "major event" as one with attendance >50k. This was in response to pressure from local residents, to keep the disruption down to a tolerable level.

So we can use the stadium with the top tier closed an unlimited number of times, but any matches where we want to sell more tickets than 50k will eat into the stadium's annual allocation of "major events", so I expect we'd have to negotiate them individually with the stadium management.

The latest rumours are generally to the effect that we may want to have an increased capacity if we get drawn against one of the really big clubs.

That will be so much easier for me to get to but especially to get back home and not risk missing the last train! Never been to the New Wembley

Great news. I know some are sad we're not going to play champions league football at the Lane but in truth the ground isn't really big enough. First UEFA have these big advertising boards which take out a few rows of seats at the front so our 36k capacity is reduced to the low 30s, then there are no end of tickets that go to corporate sponsors so in the end we don't as many real fans in as we normally do for league games. I'm guessing the deal will leave the top tier closed so a capacity in the mid 50k - we're in the competition to make money so this should do it. I'd much rather play the following year at Wembley than Milton Keynes but figured the longer journey might be a price worth paying to get our new stadium.

If I was worried about 90k people passing my house at night I probably wouldn't have moved next door to the National Stadium. But that's just me, I'm practical like that.

This is great news, it means I may get to live out a dream of mine and watch Spurs play live in the Champions League. A lot more seats available can only help.

I'd guess it'd be easier for us to use the whole stadium for the CL games this year, as there won't be so many - when we're playing all our home games at Wembley it'll be trickier.
