I'd have thought Picketts Lock would be the obvious place to start - theres acres and acres of wasteland and, when that cinema was first put up, it was intended to be pulled down for the refurbishment of the land for a new athletics park (initially for the olympic bid, but the site was moved).

If it was anywhere in Enfield, i'd say it'll be nearer that area than any further in...

That would be the most likely spot, but it would need a new railway station between Angel Road and Ponders End, and you're still stuck with the second-rate service on that line. The buses aren't that great (certainly not compared to the High Road) and it doesn't take too much to snarl up Meridian Way completely now.

We had some 'ITK' a while back about Enfield offering us a shitty little site cramped in behind Ikea and those big warehouses, underneath the HT cables between the Pymmes Brook and the Lee Navigation. Magic.

This Keith Mills bloke, is he any good at his job? I was given access to the disused Sports Centre 5 years ago and it is a massive site.

This whole thing has been going on for ages. I even heard 2 years ago that Picketts Lock was earmarked for the new ground.

Transport links aren't that bad, at least the bus service seems good. Not sure about the training facilities though, although this star managed to stay on his feet.

Ladies and gents, this is Picketts Lock. (Really, it is.)

The advantage of Picketts Lock would be that their is a line that runs literally right past it and, if my memory serves, and it hasn't been torn up, there used to be a disused station along that stretch, or a platform at least. This is going back a few years, but even if there isn't, increasing the traffic along that line only makes sense for the regeneration of the area and the walk to the site from Angel (Tescos) wouldn't be too bad.

Easy access to the A10/M25 too... wouldn't be a bad site when it's redeveloped

Or could go for a Wimbledon/Milton Keynes style merger and call ourselves Enfield Spurs... wonder if they've got an decent centre mids

It wasn't a merger. W*nkleman took them to Milton Keynes and changed their name. Hallmarks of American franchising.

I don't care if we move to Deptford :shifty: as long as we get a larger stadium stat

 I don't think Deptford could cope with that sort of excitement.

Seriously though if Kelmsley is in charge of the search I expect our new stadium to open in Islamabad very soon.

I hate Picketts Lock. Always have done. My mother is to blame - she used to take me swimming there and all I remember was a steep concrete slope we had to drag ourselves up to get to the leisure centre's reception. Then week in week out after swimming I'd run down the slope, my legs couldn't keep up with the momentum and I'd smack my face and knees in the concrete.

That was when I was about 5, and I'm 34 now, but I still hate the place. And always will.

Do easyJet do cheap flights there yet?

No, there was never a station there. Angel Road must be at least as far as 7 Sisters is from the Lane, and no trains stop there on a Sunday at the moment, like Northumberland Park, and there's only one an hour to Ponders End. There's also a major dearth of pubs, kebab shops and fried chicken shops.

The trouble with that line is that it wasn't built with passengers in mind. Its original purpose was to bring freight from the North to London, and passenger trains were only laid on later. The stations were just too far from population centres in the 1840s, and they're still not that handy even today. Compared to Bruce Grove and WHL Northumberland Park is very quiet during the rush hour and hardly used at all during the day. That's why they won't build a Victoria Line extension to NP.

Well the area has been almost solely industrial for as long as i can remember, but theres a lot of land gone spare there for ages, so maybe the abandoned plans from the olympics have been dug up and changed around a bit to include residential areas (as if theres an inch of land not already earmarked for either houses or a Tesco's/Asda already) and this fabled complex? The situation for pubs around Emirates isn't that great either, but the area will grow around the new stadiums over time. It's like a healing scar i guess.

That line does the Stansted Express, doesn't it? New runway at Stansted (grrr) and they said they'd be looking to improve the rail service for the increase in passengers - maybe we should be looking at getting friendly with the bigwigs on the Stansted Project, get our requests for the line in at the same time

The council are a bunch of tossers (and I speak from 30 years' experience as a Tottenham resident) but I wouldn't be so quick to heap all the blame on them. This from the THST two years ago, regarding the proposed CPZ on matchdays. I'll quote the most relevant paragraph:

At the Trust’s meeting with Daniel Levy, Paul Barber and Donna Cullen the previous week we were told the club agreed supporters should be consulted and that they would not take a firm view until after our meeting on 13th. It is now, however, clear that the club has been actively collaborating with the council to introduce the CPZ, at least in part because they believe it will curry favours with residents if any application is made to expand the current stadium (something which remains far from imminent).

I don't care if it's their fault. They kept me awake two nights running last week with construction noise and burglar alarms and they steal all my money and they never apologise.

It does, and the expresses to Cambridge, but local usage is very limited indeed.

Part of the public transport problem is that whilst we now have so many matches on a Sunday, there are just two trains an hour on the Enfield Line on Sundays as opposed to five during the rest of the week, and none at all to Northumberland Park. The rail companies simply aren't going to restore a weekday timetable for a few days a year unless the profit greatly outweighs the hassle—and of course some games are switched to a Sunday at short notice because of TV/European commitments.

Similarly, many of the bus lanes are Monday-Saturday only, so a bus service that is now excellent during the week gets snarled up in traffic and you're quicker walking to 7 Sisters than catching a bus.

Well, I'll take a crazy out-of-left-field guess that wherever this site that has allegedly been 'identified' is, it won't be five minutes' walk from Town or Chase stations, or Gordon Hill.

Would they then be looking at building on Chase green then? the size would be about right, but it would completely lock Enfield town up with traffic, and well the whole of North Enfield as well.

I would agree that Picketts Lock would be an ideal place but would definately need the rail extension, and it wouldn't be much to increase the bus services there.

Lol don't you remember the roller skating that went on their, ended up speeding down the slope uncontrollably, to end up either hitting the bus stop or a bus it was the only way to stop when wearing roller boots.
