We're having a few production related issues with our factories out there and so I've been given the task of solving them.

Sketchy at best, but good enough to get by and I am up to scratch on a lot of the technical Chinese related to racquet production. For the rest I guess I just find a woman and go from there.

Try and get there for the end of July and make a trip to Beijing for the Asia Cup, followed by a weekend in Hong Kong for the match here - the perfect introduction to Greater China. Check out the Spurs in Hong Kong thread for details.

I would love to, but packing up my whole life in England and moving out to China doesn't give me much room for manoeuvre!

Bet we don't play in Beijing again for ages...typical

Spurs haven't been to HK for about 15 years, so it'll be a while before they're back after this visit.

Geez

The guide is available online in a pdf format by CLICKING HERE...

EXTRACT

LOCAL HOSPITALITY AND CUSTOMS

• The Chinese are usually well-versed in their country’s history,
poetry and geography, and appreciate it if you can show you have
a little knowledge about China, or even just an interest in the
local culture.

• Stick to safe conversation topics and avoid certain sensitive
subjects! Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang are considered to be part
of China. Do not criticise China or Britain, even in a light-hearted
way. This is regarded as disloyal in China. Avoid jokes of a
sexual connotation.

• In China the issue of ‘losing face’ is taken very seriously. This
can be defined as status, ego or self-respect. This can be seen as
any situation that would bring shame on or reflect badly on an
individual, family or the nation as a whole. In situations where
conflict arises, negotiating an outcome that benefits both parties
is preferable to a direct confrontation.
