Tottenham are chasing want-away Deportivo La Coruna defender Fabricio Coloccini.

    The Sun
says Spurs have tabled a £3 million bid for the Argentina international stopper.

The centre-back, 24, was left out of Depor's 2-0 win over Real Madrid on Sunday after the Londoners declared their interest.

But the Spanish outfit are expected to demand Spurs raise their offer for the former AC Milan, Atletico Madrid and Villarreal star.

His agent, Marcelo Lombillo, met with Deportivo chiefs yesterday and is now set to jet to London for further talks.

Spurs boss Martin Jol failed with a £4m bid for West Ham's Anton Ferdinand last week and has identified Coloccini as an alternative target.

he is the bod with the huge hair, isnt he?
  2. bomberharris
he is indeed...and a mighty fine perm it is too!!

An 'alternative' option to Anton Ferdinand? I'd say!

This guy has been shipped around various clubs during his career on loan and in sales but has never lived up to his potential. He is not regarded as being one of the top defenders in La Liga and is prone to go a bit AWOL at the back far too often to be of benefit to us. He also has the Judas Campbell habit of chasing the ball around rather than keeping a decent shape at the back which often exposes his team mates. He has played with some very good players in his time in Spain and Italy but doesn't seem to have learnt what he should have and doesn't excel in any aspect of his game although he has good pace.

So, I'd say I hope he doesn't come.

Incidently, he has not been mentioned at all on TV or in the Sports press that I have read over here in Spain during the last few days and they rarely miss a detail if it's going to happen. So I reckon its paper talk in the UK.

He's only 24, and will cost only £3-4million, so he's a good alternative to Davis and Ferdinand, on one condition: he has to adjust to the premiership. We would be taking a chance on whether, and how fast he can adjust. I'm assuming that if he's an Argentine international he must be talented.

Couldnt be worse than Gardner or Davenport. Is still only 23 years old, look at Robbie Keanes record, Wolves, Coventry, Inter, Leeds and Spurs all in the space of 6 years. If I remember correctly he played for Argies in 2005 confederations cup and absolutely starred at left back. Still for only 3-4 million could turn out to be good business.

His versatility will come as a plus point and he was definitely highly rated when he was Milan. He may well prove to be the answer to our left-back problem. I rather take a chance with him than spend 8.5 million on Curtis Davies, who maybe good be ain´t that good.

If he´s 8.5 million then Davenport´s worth 6 at least and King will be in the 15-20 region which is ridiculous. This just reflects the continuation of inflated pricing of British talents.

Just what we need for the run in a solid defender with Perm experience.

Batigol.. he's not going to say yeah great i want out is he? incase it goes tits up then he has fans on his back for wanting out, but if the club want to sell him theres not a lot he can do except choose where he wants to go, if he were available i'm sure there would be a que of clubs in for him.

So if he's only worth in the region of £3m and Milan didn't keep hold of him when he was there, how can he be that highly rated? Surely if he was rated the likes of Barcelona or Real Madrid would have been sniffing around him seeing as they would be seeing him play in their own league week in, week out. Better leave him well alone.

Robbie Keane is an unfair comparison - Wolves > Coventry move was understandable as a step up - then no-one would turn down Inter, which didn't work out for him as it was too much, too young. Leeds came in, a return closer to home which for a homesick lad makes sense, then Leeds went tits up and he came here.

He's been playing regularly for every club he's signed for - so suggests either attitude or poor performance.

And he doesn't want to come anyway ;)

come on man, just because he can't do it for milan doesn't mean he wont be able to do it for us.

milan are operating on a higher level than us, you cant compare us with them yet.

if we were to sign only players that have caught the interest of barca or real, than we'd sign nobody as every player would pick to join those teams rather than us

From the small amount I have seen of this player I would say that he is an excellent prospect.
  14. Partizan
he is a very hard tackler. he picks too many yellow and red cards
  15. al_pacino
Whenever i've seen him he looks like he doesn't have a clue.

    No thanks.

Milan at the time had an ever-present and reliable Maldini, Costacurta still capable as a sub, Stam, Nesta, Cafu - and seem afraid to use youth where they have experience, especially so in defence. Coloccini had no short-medium term prospect in the first team so left on loan, with the possibility of a permanent deal. I don't think it's fair to use his time at Milan as a comparison.

He's very highly regarded amongst people I've spoken to here, and personally I'd be delighted to see him come to Spurs. If he can adapt after a year and become anything like half as effective as Heinze was last year, I'd be a happy man.
  17. AJ
Jugding by his hair, I'd say that Coloccini has more "Perm experience" than most people.
  18. Kurtzen
Yes please. Better than any previous rumour. Who knows, he might've dragged a couple of those 'rubbish' Argentinian midfielders with him, you know....the one's who kick (people) with both feet and make fools of defenders:wink:

    Coloccini

Coloccini was part of the Argentine youth team that won the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship, as well as part of the gold medal winning Argentine team at the 2004 Summer Olympics. He also participated in the 2005 Confederations Cup, scoring one goal in the Confederations Cup game against Cameroon. In the 2006 World Cup, he played in two games, as a substitute against the Netherlands and as a starter against Germany in quarterfinals.

Sounds like a solid player who could provide good cover for King and offer another defensive option. Has been at Deportivo for two years now and could probably be tempted to move especially as he is not getting first team football. Not sure how he would find the Premiership though?

    :stupid:

Also during the World Cup, Jol backed Argentina as the team to win it. Obviously he has been doing his research. Would be great to have an Argentinian in the Squad.
