After failing to sign several players from Chelsea in the past, there is mounting speculation that Martin Jol is looking at becoming the latest party interested in signing Shaun Wright-Phillips.

It appears that Spurs are ready to match the £9.5 million bid made by London neighbours West Ham United to sign the enigmatic talent.

With Spurs already possessing an extraordinary talent in young Aaron Lennon, sceptics who doubt the move could happen, are being told that Lennon will move across to the left flank thereby allowing Wright-Phillips to play down his favoured right flank.

Quite how this move would be perceived by several parties, most notably the Spurs faithful and more interestingly Shaun`s step-dad, Ian Wright, remains unclear.

Would love to sign him even for 10m - the boy is class and will score goals - with lennon and swp on either flank - the creation of the time will be awesome to watch. If we got SWP, then I wouldn't mind half as much if we lost routledge.

in what way is he enigmatic?

Cantona was enigmatic, Le Tissier was enigmatic, Ginola was enigmatic, Henry is enigmatic... in what way is SWP enigmatic?

    :hello:

enigmatic i suppose in that he is very rarely seen. To be honest prefer Lennon and can't see playing both unless we only play one striker, and don't think that will happen much

    Please it's the dream:pray:

Do you see them carrying out defensive duties?

Well on the way to having the midgets sorted for the end of season panto?
The list of players we have baulked at paying 7+ for?....and the press come up with this?
    Bah and humbug.

Well they are both short so certainly wouldn't help against corners but they are both very fast and can do a good jockying role, and would be excellent at pressure play - Lennon has shown this recently. Hopefully we will be doing so much atacking that the other team hasn't got time to breath to attack anyway :)

With powerful winners like Zokora in the middle we could perhaps get away with it - Malbranque has show you dont have to be a non attacking player to be good defensively.

Also we dont HAVE to play 2 wingers every game, week in week out but it would be nice to have the opportunity - 2 WORLD CLASS WINGERS I have to add.

Moving Lennon to the left to accomodate SWP seems lunacy to me, if anything it should be other way around

agree, lennon should be right wing no-debate! he would be class anywhere in midfield, but im sure lennon would not be very happy swapping to left wing for his main competition for englands right wing, also i think malbranque is starting to come good on the left, but if we did have SWP on the left on super-lennon on the right suerly every full back in the prem will be soiling they're shorts.

why get him we dont need him it would be awaste of money, we should forget him and bring in baines, bale and other like players, i also think its time to bring in a world class central def who is versatile enough to play along the back four, id rather us spend 10m on one of them

I think Chelsea would rather sell to clubs other than Spurs. Mourinho has said in the past we are potential rivals and he doesn't sell players to rivals if possible.

SWP would be a very good signing but I just don't see this one happening.

To be honest, if both played at the same time, I'd imagine they'd interchange a lot meaning that neither is strictly playing on the left side.
  14. ostrov
    Absolutely agree with that.

Before he got injured, there were several matches in which I was very impressed with Lennon's defensive contribution and his increasing sense of team responsibility.

He's never going to be physically imposing, but his extreme speed enables him to track back very effectively and I have seen numerous occasions when his harrying and obstructiveness have slowed down an opposition break until our defence has been able to get back into position. That wouldn't have happened last season.

Plus he's actually becoming a very good tackler for his size.

He's just an extremely talented and dedicated footballer and I can see him developing into an all-round wide midfielder.

    sell routledge 4mill gbp
    buy SWP 10mill gbp

school SWP & Lennon to play on both sides so they can change positions during the games!!!

The ineffective Shaun Wright-Phillips covered up his flaws with a 66th minutes goal and Mikel John-Obi did the same with his long range screamer late on and while Ricardo Carvalho's late sixth gave the score line a more crushing look, Macclesfield could feel content that they had given their all.
