Tottenham new Brazilian star Sandro has been left out of the club's squad to play in the Champions League.

The 21-year-old arrived from Internacional at the start of the month after agreeing a £6m switch in March.

The defensive midfielder, who is considered a future star in his homeland, has declared his desire to help Spurs succeed in their debut Champions League campaign.

Sandro won the Copa Libertadores, South America's premier club competition, in the summer.

But his new club have not registered him in their 25-man squad to play in the Europe's equivalent, which will be a bitter blow to the Brazil international.

Sandro will be ineligible to play in any of Tottenham's Champions League group games against Inter Milan, Werder Bremen and FC Twente.

He could be added to the Tottenham's Champions League squad in January should they progress to the knockout stages of the competition.

Harry Redknapp's side will start their European challenge away at Werder Bremen on Tuesday night.

This seems kinda odd :eek:mg: :duh:

Hopfully this way he'll adapt to the English game quicker thereby freeing up a more motivated (due to competition) Wilson for those away games of the Champions League

Not hugely surprising really -Harry hasn't seen him play, we have a ton of other central midfielders, and in general there are 28 competitors for 25 spots, so some people had to miss out. I reckon he'll also leave out Hutton and Naughton, but there'll be room for O'Hara, Jenas, Giovanni, Walker and Bentley.

The squad list on the Champion's League website doesn't feature Gareth Bale either.

I'm fairly sure (at least on football manager!) that the same u21s rule applies for the CL as it does for the Premiership. Therefore, they can both play, shit journalism, nothing to worry about...

He can't play, U21's have to have been at the club for 2 years or something that.

It does seem odd, although i think this topic was done to death in spurs chat recently.

    HE CAN PLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He has been given a squad number but was not listed in the 25 as he is under the age of 21 before Jan 2010.

He along with Gio and Bale were not listed in the 25 squad

Spurs Chat - first with the news.

I assume SHOUTsport didn't credit us with the source of this news and pretended that their 'researchers' did the work?

Maybe it's Harry showing Sandro who's boss. Harry wasn't happy with his late arrival at the club was he.

Can't be be put in the squad at Xmas anyway?

Also why the rush to get this lad straight into the first team? He's under 21, he's going to have had a pretty crazy life so far, now a massive upheaval moving to England, new surroundings, new style of play, new language, team-mates, etc. Let him settle. We've seen what happens to youngsters if you hype them up too much. They end up at QPR.

Plus his season's only just finished & it's been a long one. Give him a break now for "pre-season", gentle easing in to the first team squad by about November, and hope he plays a dozen games back end of the season. I'd be happy with that.

His plane was delayed for about 6 hours...hardly his fault.

    It's spin. Propaganda.

Put out by Harry to cover the rift between him and Levy due to his not putting as much effort into signing the targets he actually wanted. All of you who believe otherwise are closed mind lemmings*

*Not really............I read the above waffle on another site, can't remember where for certain but i've suddenly bookmarked whataloadofbollocks.com, probably as I was sleepsurfing.

hmm there would appear to be a Defoe shaped hole in the squad now. Can we replace him?
  14. mawspurs
Wasn't he several days late though.

According to that link Spurs are top of the group!

I agree with the bit about him being entitled to a short rest after the end of a hard season, but that's about all.

Sandro is a full Brazilian international and has just helped his club reach the final of South America's top club competition. He's not just a good prospect like Taraabt, and he'll be entitled to get a bit pis**d off if Harry doesn't play him regularly, not least because it will f**k up his international chances.
  17. spud
    No he won't.

When you join a top club with a squad full of international players, your place in the team isn't automatic. He's 21, has played one full international, and he wasn't in the World Cup squad. He'll have to earn his place, and part of that will be his attitude. If he gets pissed off, then f*** him. The club is more important.
