    UEFA CUP:

Erwin Koeman did not get his preferred opponent when Feyenoord were drawn against Tottenham Hotspur in the last 32 of the Uefa Cup Friday afternoon. ‘I would have preferred Panathinaikos. This is really a tough draw,’ said the coach. ‘Spurs have got a good team. They are above all physically strong and on paper much better than Blackburn Rovers. But you always have a chance and they are sure to be great games.’

Koeman admits he’s looking forward to tasting the ambience against at White Hart Lane. ‘I’ve been there before with PSV; it’s a fantastic stadium. To get a good result there though we’ll have to equip ourselves against Spurs’ physical strength. On the other hand English sides always give you space to play. The match against Blackburn recently confirmed that. But I rate Tottenham higher.’

Technical manager Peter Bosz was immediately reminded of the matches he played against the Lilywhites in the shirt of Feyenoord. In 1992 the Rotterdammers edged out Spurs in the quarterfinal of the Cup Winners’ Cup over two legs, with a heroic performance in N17. ‘That was a fantastic experience. We’d won 1-0 at home and it finished 0-0 there. You might expect it to have been a boring game, but it had everything and it was played in a wonderful atmosphere. We’re now hoping for two football carnivals. Spurs are slight favourites, but we have already shown we can win when it’s not expected this season.’

I thought it was good to read that European teams respect us.

I think Mr Koeman might be in for a surprise then. :hump:

I agree. No wonder feyenord are doing so badly if their coach thinks British teams give you space to play.

I am actually a Feyenoord/Tottenham fan.. As I am dutch Feyenoord is in my blood.. but Tottenham is by far my favourite "foreign" team. Especially after those UEFA cup ties. Now that was fantastic!

Tottenham should not have any problem at all with Feyenoord though. Feyenoord is in serious trouble this season due to selling their best players (Kuyt to Liverpool and Kalou to Chelsea), lacking quality, and also due to 40 million euro debt. Apart from the trouble with those idiots (= hooligans).

I say 4-1 for Tottenham at home.. and away a friendly 1-1. Easy.

Its good to get a bit of info about the opposition from somebody who knows both teams well.

I sure hope you're right about the scoreline.

100% sure.. the difference in quality is way too big. Only if Tottenham underestimate Feyenoord a bit too much they have a slight chance of getting into trouble.

If I had to pick Feyenoords best players: Timmer (very solid goalkeeper), De Guzman (brother of the midfielder Tottenham once chased. 18 years and great prospect). Castelen, a bright winger but is injured and out. Drenthe (18 year old left back).. Maybe Greene.. 23.. defender.. And that is it really.. the rest is not worth mentioning. Very very poor and inexperienced side at the moment.. it hurts me to say this but it´s the truth.

Thanks for that info arj, I feel more confident of a spurs win now.

So you're a feyenoord supporter first and a Spurs fan second? Will you be cheering on Feyenoord then, arjun?

I'm Dutch too, and I have to agree with you about the players mentioned. I would also like to point out Nicky Hofs who I believe is a great player, and if fit (because he's a bit injuryprone) can always be a threat. I also believe that Danny Buijs, who was bought from FC Groningen during the summer will shine for Feyenoord in the future. And I like the Brazilian defender Andre Bahia. But the rest of the players are just too average, King and Dawson are having a field day with the current Feyenoord strikers.

    I hope your right

Interesting comments from our Dutch members. Sounds like a good draw for us, except for the hooligan issue. BMJ seemed to know we would get them and I assume he perhaps knows one or two things about them.

Feyenoord is in my blood so yes I will always choose the Feyenoord side.. even if they are poor, bankrupt and without a bright future.

but everyone has it´s favourite team outside their own country.. (Most Barcelona or Madrid or ManU).. and ever since those heroic UEFA cup ties I became a Spurs fan..

But I can not get Feyenoord out of me.. that´s in my blood.. and forever.. till I die!

I am sure you guys feel the same way about Tottenham..

Koeman talks a lot of sense there, English teams do give teams a lot of space - it is a problem of ours especially. However, Feyenoord mightn't have enough quality to really punish us. If we can come away from Rotterdam with a good result, we can go through (this could be one of our toughest games in the Uefa Cup, I don't really rate many of the teams in this competition - Sevilla and Werder Bremen are quality though)
